Background and purpose:
Mental and substance use disorders are a leading cause of global disability and estimated to cost Australia over $40 billion annually. Interventions to prevent these co-occurring problems need to be effective and cost-effective. Economic evaluations provide information to establish the value-for-money credentials of interventions and support decision-making regarding where to invest limited resources.
This webinar, presented by Prof Cathy Mihalopoulos, Dr Long Le and Dr Mary Lou Chatterton will provide an overview of economic evaluation approaches and their application to the prevention of mental and substance use disorders.
Participation will provide an:
- Understanding of economic concepts such as opportunity cost, allocative efficiency and techniques of economic evaluation (cost-benefit, cost-effectiveness, cost-utility);
- Understanding of different techniques used to measure and value outcomes in economic evaluations;
- Introduction to the cost-effectiveness literature of preventing mental and substance use disorders.
