Don't miss our Waterways Festival 2019
We're holding a FREE, family friendly day on Sunday, 25 August, to highlight some of the fantastic species that inhabit our waterways. Activities include workshops with two of Australia’s leading experts. Dr Rob McCormack pictured will talk about the mysterious ways of local crayfish. In addition, you can learn all about the Giant Dragonfly, a survivor from the Jurassic Period, with Dr Ian Baird. There'll also be turtle workshops with senior students from Western Sydney University, a PlantQuest walk and Swamp Safari, and weaving and eco gardening workshops. The Waterways Festival will be held at Wentworth Falls Lake from 10am-2pm. Numbers for some of the walks and talks are limited, so bookings are recommended. To book, go to: waterwaysfestival2019.eventbrite.com.au

Programs improve safety on local roads
We're working with the Roads & Maritime Services (RMS) on two programs to improve the safety of our local roads. Council successfully nominated four projects for funding from the NSW Government Safer Roads Program that aim to reduce crashes by implementing road treatments at high-crash rate locations. A total of $600,000 will fund these projects at Leura, Katoomba, Blackheath and Glenbrook. In addition, the Pedestrian Safety Program 2018-2019 identified five sites in Katoomba, Wentworth Falls, Blackheath, Lawson and Hazelbrook with high pedestrian activity.  Council was successful in gaining $47,500 in grants to investigate sites for the introduction of a 40 km/h speed limit to make these areas safer. Council has also made a submission to Transport for NSW for the implementation of the new speed limits. Have your say on the Springwood Library upgrade
We're planning a $2.5 million facelift for Springwood District Library, thanks to funding received from the Western Parkland City Liveability Program. The redevelopment will mean a larger, modern light-filled public facility. The proposal includes new adult reading areas, a kids’ activity and reading area, lounge booths and study booths, as well as a new accessible lift. If you’d like to give input on the proposed library upgrade, join us at a community consultation event on Saturday, 10 August, 9.30-11.30am.  It will be held in Meeting Room 1, at Blue Mountains Community Hub, Springwood. If you are unable to make this session, you can also have your say at yoursay.bmcc.nsw.gov.au/springwood-library

Calling all geeks for National Science Week
