Tell us about the barriers to UK medical device clinical research

Every year a huge number of medical devices are developed but only a few make it to the market. The NIHR supports companies, academic researchers and universities who develop medical devices to do their research in the UK. The project team is keen to hear from researchers, developers, companies and others who have had experience with medical device clinical research in the UK. Take the survey. Study Support Service: National improvement plan for industry

The NIHR's national improvement plan for the delivery of the Study Support Service is now in the second phase. While continuing to refine new processes, we have also launched new workstreams for 2019/20 - which include establishing a NIHR Champions' Programme and developing a new commercial target setting process. Be Part of Research: New website facilitates public participation in research

We want to help more people take part in research while facilitating faster recruitment times for NIHR supported studies. That’s why we’ve launched our Be Part of Research website. With improved functionality, the service builds on the success of the UK Clinical Trials Gateway. Though the new site, members of the public can search for research taking place in the UK in any condition and contact study teams to ask to take part. If your study is registered on ISRCTN or clinicaltrials.gov, details will automatically pull through to our service. Read more.

Virtual Rehab: How ‘gamification’ can help stroke recovery

Researchers supported by the NIHR Brain Injury MedTech Co-operative are pioneering virtual reality rehabilitation for stroke survivors, using low cost video game technology. They have worked with industry collaborator Evolv to create a new gaming platform to improve the lives of stroke patients suffering from complex neurological syndromes caused by a stroke. Read more.
Join Dementia Research service recruits 20,000 participants
We’re pleased to announce that over 20,000 participants have now taken part in vital research - including studies sponsored by the life sciences industry - thanks to Join Dementia Research. The innovative service is delivered by the NIHR, and matches registered volunteers with research that they may be eligible for, so that more studies can reach their potential. Read more.

Delivering cancer research on time, to target and with impact

An event hosted by the NIHR Clinical Research Network’s (CRN) cancer specialty leadership team on 24 October will showcase how NIHR services to industry can improve clinical research delivery. This will be a forum for industry representatives (including CROs) and research active cancer clinicians to exchange ideas about current and future research.  Read more.

NIHR diagnostic evidence workshops

Taking place between 8-10 October, this three-day workshop is aimed at clinicians, researchers and predominantly small to medium enterprises (SMEs) in the diagnostics sector. You can book for all the whole event, or individual days depending on your requirement. Bursaries are available for SMEs working on community healthcare medtech. Read more.
