We’re thrilled to have been a part of a recent report on the impact of the charity sector in Brighton & Hove.
Taking Account is a regular audit of third sector organisations in Brighton and Hove, which evidences the scale, scope and impact the sector makes, and evaluates its social and economic contribution to the city. The most recent version of the report includes case studies, background reports and the Brighton and Hove Money Trail Project in which nine local third sector organisations, including TDC, tracked their income and expenditure to see how much of it they spent on local services and suppliers. The project was funded via the BHCC Collaboration Fund and each of the organisations included has previously received a BHCC Communities Fund grant. These included the Hollingdean Development Trust and St George’s Hall in Moulsecoomb – two local organisations we have been working closely with for some time, and which are part of the Community Buildings Network.
We’re proud that the report has revealed that for every £1 invested in TDC, a further £1.51 of value is generated through reinvestment in our city.

TDC is working to deliver a programme of training for residents of Moulsecoomb & Bevendean.
The Autumn programme is now available and offers a range of free local workshops and low cost activities for people in the area. If you want to find out more, here are some ways to do so:

Since launching in April, the REBOOT Early intervention programme has received over 300 referrals. REBOOT is a personalised, one-to-one support package for children and young people to prevent them being exploited into criminal behaviour. TDC is working alongside three other partner organisations (YMCA DLG, AudioActive and the Hangleton & Knoll Project) to deliver the REBOOT programme across Sussex.

The Healthy Neighbourhood Fund is now open to applications across the city. Every year TDC supports community organisations to give out these small pots of Public Health funding.
This funding is a great way for people to develop health and wellbeing related community activities, projects and groups
In 2019, small grants of up to £500 are available (depending on the area) and are currently open to applications from small community groups.

Brighton Pride
TDC and friends were looking out for the welfare of young people at Brighton Pride earlier this month. Youth workers, youth coaches and the Hangleton & Knoll Project Youth bus were on hand to ensure teens at the event were having fun safely.

North & East Brighton
Our Summer holiday activity programmes this year have been jam packed with free & low-cost activities, trips and days out for young people. Details available from our youth team and listings can also be found on the Brighton Summer website.

Hollingdean
The annual Lucky Dip fair took place in Hollingdean on Sunday 30th June, with local residents coming together to celebrate their neighbourhood and enjoy a day out in the sun. Organisers repurposed The Dip bus stop as a stage, with local musicians, storytellers and a dancing seagull providing the entertainment. Read more →

Tarner
The 2019 Tarner festival took place at the end of June giving local residents the chance to come together and celebrate in the beautiful setting of Tarner Park. Entertainment came courtesy of the usual excellent line up by AudioActive and South East Dance. Read more →

Peacehaven
On the Sunday afternoon of August 11th, the Friends of Downlands Court, Peacehaven held their annual summer fair with support from TDC worker, Sue Sayers. They raised enough to produce their monthly 4 page, coloured newsletter and What’s On for the coming year. Read more →

Bevendean
This year the community of Lower Bevendean celebrated their neighbourhood by putting on a traditional summer fair, which was organised by Friends of Farm Green, Friends of BevFest and Action in Bevendean Community. Many local people and community groups came out to celebrate. Read more →

Hollingdean
There was a great turn out for the launch of the Hollingdean Pop-up library on 1st August. The free, drop-in, family event at Hollingdean Community Centre was attended by over 60 local residents of all ages with the Real Junk Food Project providing a pay-as-you-feel lunch. Read more →

Citywide
At the end of June, organisations from across Brighton & Hove came together in a citywide week of action to raise awareness of organised crime such as cuckooing and county lines. The aim was to help our communities to be better informed and more resilient against risks of exploitative practises.

Coffee & Croissant hub networking sessions are for service providers in the city. They provide a chance to meet other people working in the area and find ways to collaborate and work together more effectively.
The events take place in:
- Hanover, Elm Grove and Tarner
- Moulsecoomb and Bevendean
- East Brighton
- Hangleton & Knoll

BAME Employment and Skills Partnership.
TDC is leading a nine month partnership with BMECP (The Black & Minority Ethnic Community Partnership) with funding from BHCC Communities Fund: Collaboration. It focuses on a recommendation by Ottaway research (2016) to ‘Develop and support BME third sector to effectively disseminate Employment and Skills opportunities to BME communities across the city’. It started in July this year and we are recruiting steering group members to represent BME Community & Voluntary Organisations in B&H. We are planning the first meeting for early September. Moulsecoomb & Bevendean Open Spaces Survey.
Together with Local Wild Spaces, a collaboration of local outdoor community groups, we are asking residents about their favourite open and green spaces, how they access them and what needs improving. If you live in the Moulsecoomb & Bevendean area, please let us know what you think about your local spaces by completing the survey online here:

- ADHD Aware are looking for general committee members who have an interest in supporting adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder

We are currently recruiting youth workers to join our incredible Youth team. For 15 years TDC has been growing a style of youth work that puts young people at the heart of what we do and sees them achieve amazing things. We are looking for energetic, approachable and thoughtful people who can use initiative and want to have a real, positive impact on the teenage years of young people in Brighton.
Work involves being out in evenings mostly (when teenagers are about) and supporting them in youth clubs, arts and sports projects or on the street where we go into their spaces to build relationships and transform lives.
Deadline: Midday Monday 2nd September.
