Holiday Fun and Food
Over recent years you may have seen reports in the media about how difficult the holidays can be for some families, particularly for those who have to manage without the free school meals which they receive during term-time.

This summer, four churches in the Great Yarmouth Borough have responded to this need by providing groups which provide fun, community and a meal for local families.

Kingsgate Community Church, Magdalen Way Methodist Church, Mary Magdalene Church and St Peter's Roman Catholic Church have all opened their doors to local families, and parents, children and volunteers have enjoyed time getting to know each other, taking part in fun activities, and sharing a meal.

Please pray for the families who are attending and their relationships with the churches.

Acts 435 is a revolutionary website that allows people to give money directly to others. Managed through a network of churches and local charities, our goal is to get 100% of your donations quickly to those in need.

Locally through Acts 435 in the local area, the following requests have been met over the last year for families and individuals in need:
  • A new carpet
  • 3 Debt Relief Orders paid to allow people to become free of debt.
  • A washing machine
  • storage boxes
  • a pair of glasses
  • A fridge-freezer
However the need is much greater than my capacity to process requests. If you would be interested in becoming an advocate for Acts 435 then please contact me

Kids Matter Taster Session - 5th September

I attended a Kids Matter taster session in Norwich in March and was impressed by how this Christian organisation seeks to support parents from all different backgrounds. I particularly liked the discussion-based approach to supporting parenting which seemed very accessible, unintimidating and supportive. I'd love to see the Kids Matter Parenting Programme offered by churches in the Great Yarmouth Borough - and I've already been approached by agencies outside the church to ask when this is going to happen!

Kids Matter aims to bring about sustainable change in family life in disadvantaged communities. Kids Matter trains, equips and supports local churches to deliver accessible and effective parenting programme to parents facing adversity; giving mums, dads and carers the tools to build strong families. The have facilitator training coming up in Norwich in October 2019.

So that you can find out more, see the materials, sample what a session is like, ask questions, there will be a taster session at Magdalen Way Methodist Church in Gorleston on Thursday 5th April 10am-12noon, pastries provided. Please contact Lynette at lw@kidsmatter.org.uk if you would like to attend.

For more information see the Kids Matter website.
