You will learn to work from the actual subject, rather than photos, to create loose and unique paintings. Get to know your palette and explore what makes painting with watercolor unique. Saturday, August 24 - Bowood Farms - Botanical Plaster Prints - Create a series of three nature-inspired plaster prints with our guidance. We will use flowers, foliage and twigs to leave impressions on clay, followed by a pour of plaster. The resulting casts capture the delicate details of the botanicals. Wednesday, September 4 World Chess Hall of FameMath and the Art of M.C. Escher - 6:30-8pm - Join us for a deep dive into the mathematical influences in the works on view in "M.C. Escher: Infinite Variations." Meet the authors of "Math and the Art of M.C. Escher" and learn about three kinds of geometries and how they appear in Escher’s work. Hands-on activities will explore Euclidean and non-Euclidean tessellations (please bring your iPhone or iPad), platonic solids, and hyperbolic spaces. Availability is limited to 25 guests.

The Neighborhood Leadership Academy, created in 2002, connects resources at the University -- Creating Whole Communities and University of Missouri Extension -- with residents and neighborhoods throughout the metropolitan area who are interested in improving their communities. The Neighborhood Leadership Academy (NLA) provides hands-on leadership training that emphasizes community building principles and strategies, project planning, organizational leadership and management practices, and personal leadership skills. Participants are actively involved in their neighborhoods and represent communities from throughout the St. Louis region. Academy participants may be neighborhood association members, community leaders, resident volunteers, community-based organization staff, business owners, local government staff, and municipal elected officials. Participants who successfully complete the program receive a Certificate in Neighborhood Leadership from the Chancellor of the University of Missouri–St. Louis. Cathedral Concerts announces their 2019 - 2020 season - Saint Louis Cathedral Concerts, an independent nonprofit that brings sacred and classical music to St. Louis from world-class musicians, releases its concert lineup for the 27th season. The 2019-2020 season kicks off Monday, July 29th at 8:00pm, and continues through Friday, April 21st, 2020. The series of live concerts will showcase notable musicians in one of the world’s most striking cathedrals, the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis located at 4431 Lindell Blvd.
