This September, Alexandria Library is joining the American Library Association and libraries nationwide for Library Card Sign-Up Month, an initiative to highlight the value of a library card.

Alexandria Library welcomes you to join the celebration by getting a library card at one of our Pop-Up events or your local library branch.

Celebrate with Alexandria Library

 Celebrate Constitution Week (September 17 - September 23)

Constitution Week is the commemoration of America's most important document. It is celebrated annually during the week of September 17-23. The aims of the Constitution Week celebration are to:

  • Emphasize citizens' responsibilities for protecting and defending the Constitution.
  • Inform people that the Constitution is the basis for America's great heritage and the foundation for our way of life.
  • Encourage the study of the historical events which led to the framing of the Constitution in September 1787.

   Celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15 - Oct. 15)

Beginning Saturday, September 15, Alexandria Library will host programs that highlight the rich Hispanic heritage in our community. During National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15), we recognize the important presence of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States and celebrate their contributions to our culture.

Alexandria Discovers 18th-Century Ships
Archaeologists working at the Robinson Landing site in Alexandria, Virginia, discovered the remains of three 18th-century ships, along with wharves, warehouses and more. Learn about these latest finds and about earlier nautical discoveries, including another ship, from the nearby Indigo Hotel site on S. Union Street. Rising 7th, 8th and 9th graders may enter and win up to $100! Just create an essay or poem on the topic: "Who has influenced your life, and why?"
