August 2019 Newsletter

Hopefully, you're getting ready for the September surge, as new members turn up at your club, and old members return after a summer break. Check out the latest articles on new (old) member inductions, and why you should push members towards classes rather than the pool.

The September events calendar is packed; with eGym roadshows, and the ClubRight Retention league. And if you're looking for a challenge in September, we've got some Rugby World Cup ideas below too.

New Gym Members...

"Have you been a member before?"

Don't let this question be the loophole that your staff use to excuse new members from the induction or welcome appointment process.

There are lots of reasons that new members who have inductions stay longer. If your staff would rather members bypass the induction, then you should look into the reasons for this behaviour, and try to change it!

Why do we still try to get them into the pool?

Many clubs still go overboard trying to get new members to use their pool, selling the benefits on joining, and mentioning it in new member email communications. Sure, the pool has a big cost overhead, but convincing new gym members to swim is a waste of breath or email content 99% of the time. Swimmers do tend to stay longer, but persuading gym users to swim is a thankless task.

Whether or not you have a pool, there's some top tips on getting as many new members as possible into fitness classes here
