This Wednesday, at our annual Bench Bar Media event, an expert panel representing perspectives from the bench, the trenches of a First Amendment law practice and the world of journalism will examine escalating threats to free courts and free press, the third and "fourth" branches of our democracy. The Daniel T. Broderick III Award will be presented at the annual Red Boudreau Dinner on September 14 to Doug Butz of Higgs Fletcher & Mack LLP. The annual award is given by vote of our colleagues in ABOTA, CASD and SDDL to an accomplished trial lawyer who adheres to the highest standards of civility, integrity and professionalism. Under California´s New Ethics Rules, Are Lawyers Ever Off The Clock?
Until November 1, 2018, California was the lone hold out state that had not yet adopted some version of the ABA Model Rules. And while we had our own statutes that addressed attorney misbehavior on personal time, we did not formally have our own version of the ABA Misconduct rule.
