From Julie...

Spring Beach Camp will be happening next week. What a chance this will be to put our current school value of curiosity into practice. Wikipedia tells us that:

Curiosity (from Latin cūriōsitās, from cūriōsus "careful, diligent, curious", akin to cura "care") is a quality related to inquisitive thinking such as exploration, investigation, and learning, evident by observation in humans and other animals. Curiosity is heavily associated with all aspects of human development, in which derives the process of learning and desire to acquire knowledge and skill.

Curiosity is a quality that we see in Cottage School students and staff in abundance, but it does need to be nurtured and provided with fertile ground to grow. Spring Beach camp will provide plenty of opportunity for children to explore the natural environment, their social world, their physical skills and capacities.

While much of the camp program will be flexible and weather dependent, or at least related, we will still be getting the students out and about day and night, rain or sunshine, so they will need to be well prepared with all the appropriate gear and enough of it. Please read carefully the CAMP- Spring Beach Term 3 2019 notice that was sent home by email recently. Children who do not have appropriate footwear or raincoats often really struggle with bushwalking and other fun outdoor activities so please ensure that your child packs the most suitable warm socks, boots and a waterproof raincoat. Ballet slip on shoes are just not good for long distance walking! It’s been tried before and it did not work well. Remember too that puffer jackets do not double as a raincoat as they are generally not waterproof; once wet, puffer jackets could be worse than useless in a big downpour and it will be pretty miserable to be wet and cold while everyone else is dry, warm and having a good time. Sleeping bags need to be warm too or you could send extra blankets if necessary.

Please support your child to pack using the list provided by their teacher to help maximise their chance of having a really great time every day of camp. If you are not sure, imagine it raining heavily on the first and second day and make sure they have enough to get through the rest of the week warm and dry. That’s why we suggest two pairs of shoes/boots and gum boots!

From the Littlies...

The Littlies shared their thoughts about why they enjoy the  Choosing program:

Outdoor boxes and cubbies are great. You can make boats and helicopters. Charlie

I love woodwork. I like hammering and banging and building. Angus

I just like playing with water. It's cool to feel and you can make things by pouring sand into it. Eli

I just love being with my friends. Remi

Pouring coloured water together to make potions is fun. Lizzie

When I do box work I imagine stuff to build and then I make it. James

I love it. All of it. Choosing is my most favourite thing at school. Lottie

When you play outdoor boxes you can build anything you like and then play games like mums and dads. Jesse
