Welcome to our Interim Newsletter!
RMIT recently promoted its annual search to recruit its 2020 Vice Chancellor's Fellowships. As applications are now closed, my colleagues and I will be busily looking at applications that are showing strong alignment to our ECPs. This is an exciting time where RMIT will endeavour to capture and maintain excellent and high-calibre researchers.

Potential Collaborations
Researcher Policy Capability Network
A Researcher Policy Capability Network
is being established to bring together RMIT researchers
with experience in policy engagement, or from previous policy roles. The network will share knowledge on
effective approaches to influencing policy and provide support and advice to other researchers seeking to
engage with policy stakeholders.

Funding Opportunities
The Early Stage Investment Forum invites presentations from local research institutes, universities, hospitals and pre-series A companies in the area of human therapeutics and enabling technologies. The Forum is a key part of the AusBiotech 2019 Conference and will be held on Friday 1 November from 9.00 am and 12.30 pm. Further details about the AusBiotech 2019 Conference can be found in the Conferences section of this newsletter below.
Prize: Biocurate will award the 'Best Translational Research' prize, to the value of AU$7,000 to the best pitcher and lead investigator/s.

HDR Opportunities
The RMIT Thesis Boot Campis a three-day intensive writing workshop for middle-to-final stage HDR candidates designed to assist research candidates with problems they may come across during their first stage of their degree or to get back on track if their writing process has stalled.
Places are strictly limited. Applications close: Friday 30 August 2019.

'Finding biological challenges for new bioimaging and sensing technologies' Networking Symposium
The Advanced Optical Materials Network is hosting a Networking Symposium for those who have an interest in imaging and sensing in biology. This symposium includes a great line-up of speakers from across many disciplines, including engineering, biology, chemistry and physics. They will present 'rapid fire' talks followed by a networking lunch.

The Biomedical & Health Innovation ECP ‘4.0 Revolution and Personalised Medicine’
Symposium will hostexpert speakers from industry as well as RMIT researchers from
various disciplines. This event promises to deliver a truly multidisciplinary approach. It
will be held on Friday 30 August, 2019 from 9.00 am - 2.00 pm in Building 16, Level 7,
Green Brain.Transport will be arranged for those who are based at the Bundoora campuses. Industry speakers include:

The inaugural Bioinformatics Symposium will take place over three consecutive days to cover current topics and workshops in bioinformatics. Each workshop will commence with exciting
talks by invited industry speakers and research experts followed by workshops aiming to
upskill participants whilst learning new tools in bioinformatics including an introduction to:
R and RStudio for bioinformatics; and Python and Jupyter notebooks.
Scaling analyses with Cloud and HPC resources.
The Bioinformatics Symposium will be held from 9 - 11 September, 2019 from 10.00 am to 4.30 pm in the Megaflex space in Building 202, Level 2, rooms 7 & 8, Bundoora west campus.
Hosted by the JMF Centre for Primary Immunodeficiencies Melbourne, the 2nd Annual Symposium, 'Bridging Research and Care for Patients' will be held on Friday 11 October 2019. The symposium is proud to feature Keynote speaker, Associate Professor, Mirjam van de Burg from Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), Netherlands along with short talks from local immunology registrars and junior researchers. TheECR Network Bundoorais hosting the RMIT SEH ECR Conference, which will take place on Wednesday 30 October 2019 in Building 224, (lecture theatre) at the Bundoora west campus. If you are an ECR or if you have ECRs in your research team, please encourage them to participate in this exciting conference and/or be part of the line-up of presentations.
Prize categories include:
Best oral presentation ($1000) and
Best poster presentation ($500) presentations to individuals from each of the schools within the College of Science, Engineering & Health.
ECR project with the most engagement/impact (non-academic) such as external community-, industry- engagement or clinical relevance $1,000), sponsored by the BHI ECP and industry.
AusBiotech 2019 - Australia's Life Sciences Conference
Taking place in the city of Melbourne from 30 October to 1 November, AusBiotech 2019 will bring together Australian and international biotech leaders and stakeholders for three days of education, skills building, and networking.
The AusBiotech 2019 conference will create a forum to reflect on the sector’s achievements and exchange ideas on a range of topics to further advance the sector’s standing both nationally and globally.
The Melbourne Mechanobiology Symposium is a two-day event, which will address the recent advances on the role of mechanical forces in cellular physiology, their clinical implications as well as emerging methods and techniques. This symposium aims to provide researchers with opportunities to network and collaborate with various disciplines across the university and with other organisations.
This event will take place from 7 to 8 November 2019 at RMIT University, Building 98, Activator, City campus.

48th Annual Scientific Meeting of the
Australian and New Zealand Society for Immunology (ASI2019)
ASI2019 will be held from 8-12 December 2019 at the Adelaide Convention Centre, SA. This conference will showcase the best immunological research from Australia and around the world. A wide-range of topics will be covered including tumour immunology, inflammation, autoimmunity, infectious disease and translational immunology.
