As reported in the current UNITING EARTH newsletter, Terrigal Uniting Church were presented with their Five Leaf Eco-Awards Basic Certificate at the Uniting Church NSW/ACT Synod meeting on Saturday 6th of July 2019.
Congratulations on receiving recognition for the initiative and effort shown on so many fronts in response to an issue that is facing us all.

The Five Leaf Eco-Awards are an ecumenical environmental change program for churches. Using a series of environmental awards the program inspires, assists and rewards churches for caring for God’s creation. The Five Leaf Eco-Awards provide a framework for basic and advanced environmental action that was specifically designed for churches and religious bodies.

It is fantastic to see the incredible commitment to the ongoing sustainability of the local environment around Terrigal Uniting church, and the commitment that they have made to caring for God's beautiful creation.

Some of their many environmental projects recognised include a Conservation Covenant on the bush area, including significant bush regeneration work and the installation of Native bee hives and nesting boxes for the local wildlife.
They have also established a Bush Tucker Garden and have been actively educating the congregation on recycling.
A small but significant change is the toilet paper that they use. The church has changed to "Who Gives A Crap" which is a sustainable toilet paper company.
Reverse cycle air conditioners have been installed to reduce the electricity consumption (compared to fan heaters) and lights have been changed over to LED.

A detailed waste audit was also conducted which found that almost half of the waste produced was food scraps, which led to the purchase of a composter for the scraps. The Church also have Solar panels and a water tank.

What a mammoth effort Terrigal - you are an inspirational congregation.

Seeking young adults to form an intentional community
The Cottage is a furnished 5-bedroom home next door to Roseville Uniting Church, a very short walk from Roseville train station. The church is now offering rental accommodation so that young adults can live in this home and participate actively in the life of Roseville Uniting.
Our hope is that The Cottage will become an intentional community of young adults who care for one another and grow through the time they spend living together.
We also hope that The Cottage will help Roseville Uniting achieve our vision of being an invitational church that offers community, conversation and partnership, as we share the love and welcome of Jesus Christ.
Rent: $180 – $220 / week plus electricity and gas.
Visit https://roseville.unitingchurch.org.au/cottage/ to read our FAQs and to express interest, or email us at ruc.cottage@gmail.com if you have some further questions.
