Respectful Relationships: What I Want More Of

Money? Happiness? Love? To be that special person in someone’s life or to have that special someone? There are lots of things we would like more of but isn’t RESPECT at the top of the list when we consider an intimate partner relationship?

Intimate partner violence is about power and control. It’s about how we touch, talk and treat each other. It can show up in our attitudes to such things as gender, sex, finances, friends, culture, family, freedom, decision-making and roles. That's why...

Everyone Deserves Respect: Rainbow Talk

Many people from LGBTIQ communities have experienced discrimination and exclusion based on their intersex status, sexual orientation or gender identity. This kind of discrimination has been clearly shown to contribute to poorer health and wellbeing outcomes, particularly in relation to mental health.

The initial prompt for the Rainbow Talk card set was to provide a simple conversation-building tool that would help increase everyone’s knowledge, skills, empathy and understanding of the experiences of people from LGBTIQ communities. As time went by we began to understand more clearly that these cards are for anyone wanting to explore their identity in a more nuanced and reflective way.

Power / People / Voice

The Summit, BEYOND LIP SERVICE: Person-Centred Practice in Action, is built around three key themes—Power, People and Voice.

The objective of St Luke's Innovative Resources in this Summit, is to bring together a range of exciting speakers and practitioners who will share creative and surprising ideas about development and delivery of services that are collaborative, respectful, and include the full participation of service recipients.

Not to be missed!

So what do we mean by People, Power and Voice?

Eating Disorders & Other Shadowy Companions

Did you know that we are working with Danni McDougall, a senior social worker and art therapist to develop a set of cards aimed at opening up respectful and frank conversations about eating disorders?

There is often so much secrecy and shame associated with these illnesses. This means that people experiencing them can feel very alone. We really hope the cards will help provide a gentle yet powerful tool for people living with an eating disorder (or other illnesses such as depression or addiction) to bridge the gap of isolation, even a little, by communicating their experience through the poignant, skillful and very soulful cartooning in this card set. Each card will also offer a question that opens up a window of possibility for a way forward—without pushing anyone towards an unrealistic quick-fix strategy.
