Transforming communities by enabling them to amplify their voices

Jambo from everyone at Mojatu Foundation!

We have had an incredibly busy summer as usual at Mojatu Foundation. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended our African Farm festival, and all of the volunteers we have worked with over a number of hugely successful events. As usual, we have used these opportunities to talk about important issues including how to eradicate FGM, how to tackle hate crime, and how we can work towards community cohesion.

We have also trained up more ambassadors who work with us to spread our message of zero tolerance to FGM, we have established new training programmes to reach more of our community members, and are continuing to share good news stories from our communities through our magazine and radio station.

African Farm Festival 2019

This year, we teamed up our African Farm Festival with LEAF Open Farm Sunday to make a bigger and better event than ever! We had an incredible day celebrating the incredible and diverse cultures that make up Nottingham, and highlighting important issues including FGM, knife crime, and community cohesion.

The day was an important opportunity for communities to come together and learn about where their food comes from. As well as trailer rides and farming machinery, we had a range of African dancers and musicians, and sports sessions. We had a range of over thirty volunteers from over fifteen countries helping to make the day a huge success and we can't wait to do it all again next year!

Hyson Green Cultural Festival

Following on from our African Farm Festival, again this year, we joined the Hyson Green Cultural Festival Team on the Forest Recreational Ground to celebrate diverse cultures within Nottingham.

It was a great opportunity for us to tell more people about the support we can offer, from information, advice and volunteering opportunities, to becoming an Ambassador to eradicate FGM. There was an incredible range of live music, dancing and workshops throughout the day, including grafiti art and yoga.

Legacy Tree Planting

A group of over 20 participants attended an event at Farmeco to plant a tree as a lasting legacy to our efforts to act as ambassadors of change in our communities. Starting with FGM, but aimed at addressing a range of community issues, the day symbolised an important moment where people came together to leave a lasting legacy that symbolised their desire for change. Many participants and ambassadors fighting for the FGM community erected plaques close by where the legacy tree was planted. Prayers were said at the meeting in respect of those who have lost their life to this practice, and for those who have endured it and those who liberate against it.
The day was wrapped up with a celebration of the great work those who support the FGM community are doing and the work that they carry out. Music, food and new friendships were enjoyed during the festivities, uniting those who attended as they spoke of their plans and endeavours to challenge this act, to disseminate their education and furthermore to end FGM indefinitely.

FMB Digital Storytelling

FMB Radio wish to provide a platform for local artists, individuals and organizations to share their unique stories. We believe that many of us feel unheard and misunderstood, as only those can truly understand a personal struggle who are or were going through something similar. FMB tries to connect those people who share things in common and connect individuals to organizations, organizations to organizations to help mutual growth.

We want to offer organizations and individuals the opportunity to share their side of the story, their motivation, success, involvement and goal to get our community know about them through a different perspective. By interviewing them, we want to show not just the organization but the people behind, so many people aim to help to improve our community that needs to be recognized.
