Chloride pollution is becoming a problem in our area. Over-salting causes permanent water quality damage. Be a part of the solution and encourage your property manager to get Smart-Salting certified!

This Smart Salting: Parking Lots and Sidewalks Workshop will provide training on a variety of best practices for managing snow and ice on parking lots and sidewalks. All plow drivers, maintenance workers, building managers, and other staff responsible for winter parking lot and sidewalk maintenance are encouraged to attend.

Training Topics:
  • Application rates of materials
  • Equipment calibration
  • Weather conditions
  • Material storage
  • New maintenance methods
  • De-icing and anti-icing
  • Environmental effects
  • Legal issues and additional resource

Optional Certification
An optional test is offered at the end of the workshop to become Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) Level 1 Smart Salting Certified. Certified individuals are listed on the MPCA website.
