VTrans Workshop Scheduled for August 22nd in Culpeper

The Virginia Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment (OIPI) is hosting a VTrans Regional Workshop on Thursday, August 22nd from 9:30am to 2:00pm at Germanna Community College in Culpeper.  Staff and representatives from local governments, transit providers, transportation demand management (TDM) agencies and public transportation entities are encouraged to attend.  RSVPs are requested by OIPI.

VTrans is Virginia's multimodal transportation plan developed by the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) every four years. VTrans lays out the overarching Vision and Goals for transportation in the Commonwealth, identifies transportation investment priorities, and provides direction on implementation strategies and programs to the CTB and to transportation agencies such as Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT), as well as regional Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs).

The purpose of the workshop is for OIPI to share and discuss data trends and performance measures that will be used to identify needs for Corridors of Statewide Significance, Regional Networks and Safety issues.  These needs have direct applicability to project eligibility for the Smart Scale transportation funding program.  Participants in the workshop can enhance this effort by providing feeds on performance measure thresholds that best address the underlying VTrans Goals and Objectives and by sharing local/regional knowledge to identify issues that may not be fully captured or accurately represented by data alone.

In the Rappahannock-Rapidan region, Interstate 66, U.S. Route 29 and U.S. Route 17 between I-66 and Stafford County are identified as Corridors of Statewide Significance.  As of the last round of Smart Scale, there were no Regional Networks within the region, although the Regional Commission has supported broadening the definition of regional networks to increase project eligibility within the region.

Be on the Lookout for Commuter Services Vanpool Wrap
RRRC Commuter Services recently worked with a regional vanpool operator to promote vanpooling and encourage commuters within and outside the region to connect with ridesharing opportunities with a Vanpool wrap.  The wrap puts RRRC Commuter Services information 'on the road' and in front of commuters that may benefit from the cost and time savings associated with ridesharing.

RRRC Commuter Services can be reached at (540) 829-7451 or (540) 829-7450 and is online at http://www.rrcommute.org.  The project was supported by a grant from the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) and in cooperation with Vanpool!VA.
