Where Top CEOs Got MBAs
U.S. News: Map: See Where Top CEOs Got MBA Degrees - The text in this article, not the map (at right), tells the story. Challenge: How would you create a map to illustrate the patterns?

Esri: 50 Recorded UC Tech Workshops are now available on YouTube - These recordings are available to all with no charge. Also now available: Videos from the Education Summit plenaries.

The program is grant funded by St. Bernard Parish Government's Coastal Division through the Restore Act." There's a certificate, technical diploma and associate degree available.

Wilson Times: Edgecombe Community College offers drone operator program - "This fall, Edgecombe Community College will launch a unique certificate program in unmanned aircraft systems, better known as drones. ECC will be the only community college in the state to offer the program." The state is North Carolina and the uniqueness is a focus on legal issues related to drones.

On and Off Campus

Penn State: Student explores urban forestry during internships in Pittsburgh, Washington DC - "[ forest ecosystem management student Jess] Sourbeer also is minoring in geographic information science (GIS), and another significant part of her internship is creating a geographic information system database of the trees on the U.S. Capitol Grounds." This is a great story of studying "GIS and," which I'd argue is a great path toward a career.

MSU: Spartans Map Michigan's Sand Dunes - "Alan Arbogast, chairperson of MSU’s Department of Geography, recently supervised the creation of the most detailed, comprehensive map of Michigan’s dunes, totaling more than 230,000 acres. In addition to mapping previously unrecognized dunes on the west coast of Lower Michigan, the map also includes dunes on the eastern side of the Lower Peninsula, along Lake Huron — which aren’t mapped in other surveys." There's no map, but there is audio.

Money

USGIF: USGIF Awards Highest Amount of Annual Scholarship Funds to Date - This year's $130,000 in scholarships, to 25 individuals studying GEOINT and related topics, tops all previous years. If your high school, college or university is not represented by a student recipient, start spreading the word about free money for geospatial students!

People

Ignite Education: Finding My Way in Geography - The last of my three geography mentors just retired. That'd be David DiBiase who spent his last day at Esri last week. I mark the occasion by considering the impact David, and two other gentlemen connected to the geography Department at Penn State, had on who I became.
