August 2019
This gentleman passed me the other day in Pepperrell Cove in his beautiful wooden dory, and I just couldn’t resist intruding and snapping the above picture. It says more about Maine than a bumbling writer like myself can possibly express in words. If this skipper finds me in a bar, the drinks are on me.

Gabriel Donohue joins me on August 21

Speaking of Maine, here’s a recent shot of Gabriel Donohue and me enjoying a brisk summer sail on the North Atlantic. Gabriel will joining me at my concert at the Jammin’ Java in Vienna, Virginia, on August 21. We’ll be performing a preview of the show we’ll be taking on our sold-out tour to Ireland in late September. The Java is one of the best small venues in the DC area, so grab your tickets soon. It’s always great craic with Gabriel!

On this August leg, I will also be performing this coming Sunday afternoon (August 11) at Bracco’s in Freeport, Long Island; at the Beverly Hills Tavern in Reading, Pennsylvania, on August 14; at the annual fundraiser for Southern Maryland Sailing Association in Solomon’s Island on August 18; and after the Jammin’ Java on the 21st, I will head up to the Grassy Strip Music Series at the lovely Madison Beach Hotel in Connecticut on August 22.

Portland, Maine, on October 17

Nearly 40 years ago, long before I became a singer/songwriter and escaped the political world for Key West, I played bass guitar in a quartet called the Overdew Band with three former high schoolmates. Two were talented acoustic guitarists and songwriters, and the third was harmonica wizard Gary Green. I barely sang (for good reason) but thoroughly enjoyed living in the bass guitar world for three years.

We played a lot of small clubs around New England, but I think our favorite was the Old Port Tavern in Portland. The club (which still exists) was great, the people were incredibly nice, the band apartment overlooked the bay, and Portland seemed like Manhattan to four kids from Penacook and Boscawen, New Hampshire.

I recently got booked at One Longfellow Square, Portland’s premier intimate concert venue. I really look forward to returning to Portland. Tickets are now available for that show.
