Council shortlisted for National Climate Award
Council has been recognised on the national stage, with its Carbon Revolving Reserve (CRR) project a finalist in the 2019 Cities Power Partnership Awards. The Awards recognise outstanding achievement by local governments in the fields of renewable energy, sustainable transport, energy efficiency, community engagement and climate advocacy. The CRR will see the majority of Council’s lighting and 53% of street lighting converted to LEDs, and the installation of 290kW of rooftop solar, saving $300,000 of energy each year and enabling a further $1.5 million of investment in energy saving over the next five years. The winners will be announced at the Cities Power Partnership's second birthday celebration on 29 August.

Blue Mountains wins Waste to Art Award
Blue Mountains took first prize in the Community 3D category, at the Regional Waste To Art Community Exhibition recently. The exhibition featured about 120 artworks, from 14 NetWaste councils, all made from everyday rubbish. The winning artwork was a collaborative community project made by over 100 Blue Mountains residents, weaving together discarded fabric and soft plastics to make a powerful owl’s nest. Waste to Art is an initiative of NetWaste, a voluntary local government waste network with 28 member councils across regional NSW. It aims to encourage the whole community to rethink their waste and promote a low-waste lifestyle. The Blue Mountains piece will feature at the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre from 7 September 2019. Get more information on the annual Waste 2 Art project

Last chance to have your say on Springwood Library upgrade
About 50 local residents attended our community consultation event on 10 August to have their say on the $2.5 million upgrade of Springwood District Library. The morning session discussed various questions, including how residents use the library and what would encourage them to use it more. The event also explored ways in which the library could be more accessible and inclusive for all members of the community. The proposed redesign, funded from the Western Parkland City Liveability Program, includes a modified reception area, new adult reading areas, a kids’ activity space, lounge booths and study booths, as well as an accessible lift. Our online survey closes on Saturday, 17 August.  Don't miss the chance to have your say!  Find out more or have your say
