PROTESTERS THRONG HONG KONG AIRPORT AS PROPERTY LOBBY CALLS FOR CALM
Hong Kong, August 9, 2019
Demonstrators crowded the arrivals hall at Hong Kong airport on Friday, handing out anti-government leaflets and waving banners in a dozen languages in an effort to raise awareness among visitors ahead of a weekend of protests planned across the city.

COMMITTEE FORMED FOR COOPERATION

The government is setting up a monetary and fiscal committee to oversee policy as it attempts to deal with the impact of the global economic slowdown and stabilise the local currency.
Speaking to the heads of state agencies and state-owned enterprises yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak said the new committee includes the Bank of Thailand, Finance Ministry, the Stock Exchange of Thailand, the Securities and Exchange Commission and other related agencies.

THE APPLE CARD STARTS ROLLING OUT

Apple has started rolling out its new payment card to a small set of users.
The card is a virtual payment system which sits in the iPhone and allows people to pay with their device. It is issued by Goldman Sachs but branded by Apple, and includes a range of tech features.
Despite living primarily in the phone, users can also request a shiny titanium card for payments, which is rolling out now too.

EUROPEAN SPACE AGENCY TEAMS UP WITH BARBIE TO ENCOURAGE GIRLS TO BECOME ASTRONAUTS
The ESA and Barbie collaboration will highlight the achievements of Samantha Cristoforetti, who is the only active female astronaut in Europe.
In the hopes of encouraging more girls to become the next generation of astronauts, engineers and space scientists, the European Space Agency has joined forces with Barbie.
