Dear <<First Name>>,

Welcome to my latest e-newsletter

It has been a particularly busy few weeks as my partner had a baby in June! He is 6 weeks old now and very happy and healthy. Many thanks if you've passed on your best wishes and apologies if I haven't got back to you promptly in the last few weeks. I'm back in the swing of things now.

Limehouse Lungs: Air Quality Campaign

Many thanks if you have signed the petition, it has been very popular. I had a useful meeting with GLA Housing Officers about the future of Branch Road a few weeks ago (pictured).

They told me they are exploring redeveloping the space with modular housing and greening. They're looking at around 20 units; much less dense than previous plans and agreed that there should be significant greening and air quality mitigation measures.

It'll be another few weeks before their feasability study is produced and we'll take it from there.

In the mean time they agreed to open up the space and I am now pursuing this along with meetings with GLA traffic management and air quality officers to look at what can be done in the wider area.

News around Limehouse
  • Tower Hamlets' cabinet met to discuss the future of Malting & Brewster Houses on the Barley Mow estate at the end of June. The decision is in the Mayor's hands now and will likely be made in the next few weeks. I have particular concerns around the impact of vibration and noise and whether more residents should be decanted than currently proposed which I have been discussing with the Mayor and officers. Leaseholders also have significant concerns which need to be taken into account along with a variety of other issues. There was a well attended public meeting on the issue (pictured) and I anticipate there will be many more....

  • I was pleased to visit the public exhibition consulting on the development of the old portakabin site on the St Vincents Estate. Officers received a range of feedback (as have I) about priorities for the area which they will consider.

  • Anti social behaviour on Milligan St and Three Colt St has reared its head in the past few weeks. The Safer Neighbourhood Team and Council are aware and increasing patrols in the area. Please email any ASB incedents you encounter to PSPO@towerhamlets.gov.uk, which is dedicated solely to reporting in Limehouse ward. All these reports are collated with the Safer Neighbourhood Team.

  • There will be a community day of action in Rectory Gardens Park on Saturday 28th August from 9am - 5pm. This comes on the back of the public meeting held there and the community safety walkabout recently taken in the ward. Please pop along to help clean up, remove troublesome benches and paint the fences at any time.

  • I was pleased to attend LimeFEST in Ropemakers Fields Park on 7th July. It was another packed and successful day. Well done to the Limehouse Community Forum for organising it.

Across Tower Hamlets
  • The council has awarded £7.8 million of Local Community Funding across the borough. Grant giving in Tower Hamlets in Tower Hamlets is always an interesting process and the Overview & Scrutiny Committee spent a lot of time digging into the award. You can read a summary of our concerns here along with the Mayor's response here.

  • The Mayor agreed to extend the contract of Tower Hamlets Homes by another 8 years. This decision has now been 'called-in' in by backbench councillors for review by the Overview and Scrutiny committee. Watch this space at it unfolds....

  • The council has opened up a consultation as it develops its new Transport Strategy. Have you say here.
