With International Overdose Awareness Day coming up on August 31st, it is a good time to reflect on the progress we have made as a community. At a Richmond County District Attorney's Office press conference last month, District Attorney Michael E. McMahon announced that there has been a 44% decrease in year-to-date overdoses from 2018 to 2019 –from January to June of 2018, there were 194 overdoses of which 55 were fatal, whereas during this same 6-month time period in 2019, there have only been 108 overdoses of which 37 were fatal. Although any loss in human life is still tragic, these reductions offer hope for improvements in our community. Join us at one of TYSA's three events around Staten Island on August 31st to celebrate these successes, and learn more about how we can continue to build on these successes moving forward. Use the link below for more details about the RCDA press conference on July 9.
