Have your say on Recycling
Warrnambool City Council is looking at ways to reduce the potential for recyclable materials to end up in landfill.  As part of the process, Council wants the community to provide feedback on recycling options.  Use this link to have your say.

Lots of wonderful pasta made at Kylie Treble's Pasta Making Class recently. Kylie's next workshop is Pastry Making, See Flyer beow.    Future workshops are Dairy Free Nut Mylks & Cheese and Glen Free Cooking.

With such miserable weather the herb group needed a back up plan as it was too wet to weed. With everyone having an abundance of lemons they decided to preserve some. Very simple recipe of salt lemons and a few herbs. Great to add to middle eastern dishes, tangines and add to salads or dressings.
These ladies look pretty happy with the Kokedamas they created at the recent Rock.Leaf.Moss Kokedama Workshop.  Don't miss their next workshop on 6th September.
Some members of the Herb Group have been busy bottling olives that were kindly offered for picking to the garden.    These bottles will be ready for tasting in around 4 months, when we will bottle them up to share with members.
What a lovely bunch of people cooking Chinese together at The Community Garden Hub .
Another Chinese Cooking Master Class done and dusted with fabulous Jun Lu.
Thanks to Warrnambool City Council for funding 2 School Holiday Workshops for Kids, to learn how and why to reduce the use of plastic and make some beeswax wraps to use instead of cling wrap.   We had lots of Members' children participate.
The Terrarium Workshop with Rock.Leaf.Moss was such a great hands on experience with fabulous terrariums made by all.   Don't miss their next workshop on 6th September

Coast Beard-Heath  Leucopogon parviflorus
Flowering - July – November
This plant is growing outside the main fence at the right hand side of the double gate entry.

Followed by edible white fruit.   Seeds do develop, but usually only germinate after passing through a bird’s tummy. It is beautiful at the moment with all its flowers.
In the close up of three flowers you can the ‘beards’ on the petals,  showing why it has the common name of Coastal beard-heath.  There are a number of these shrubs growing at WCG,  - take a walk up to the far west fence, especially on the north side of the trees/shrubs there and have a look, and enjoy.  It grows quite well around Thunder Point and you can find many plants there, both on the walk to Shelley Beach and the other way walking along the boardwalk.  (Thanks to Wilma for her informative article on fabulous plants around the WCG)
August in the Garden
  • Its your last chance to plant bare rooted fruit trees.   Race down to the nursery now and grab a few fruit trees.
  • Pruning and weeding is the top job.
  • If planning on putting in some tomatoes next month, prepare a bed now (your toms will thank you for it). Do this by popping in some organic compost, pelletised chook poo, a wee bit of water, and applying straw mulch.
  • Get spraying! To prevent peach leaf curl (which also effects Nectarines)
  • op up mulch on your veggie patches, herb gardens and ornamental beds. Choose sustainable, low environmental impact mulch, one that will enrich your soil as it breaks down.
What to Plant in the Patch
Now is an excellent time to plant! Consider cabbage, asian greens like mizuna, tatsoi or pak choi, lettuce, rocket, spinach, carrots, celery, cauliflower, spring onions, leek, onions, radish, turnips and swedes
