“Behaviour change is absolutely critical to driving this change through.  We need to improve the infrastructure. We need to make it safer. We need to make it more accessible. We need the infrastructure and all the pieces of work that have been going on. However, we are not going to be able to achieve the change we want and the scale of change we want within London without tackling some of the cultural piece on this. Part of that, as you have said, is communication. Part of that is how we talk about this and how we engage a raft of different people to be talking about the benefits of this in different areas and reaching out to employers, schools, families and communities.  As I said, we have a behaviour change team within TfL. Talking to them and looking at some of the materials and the approach that they take is learning from some of the best in the world in terms of influences and nudging people towards making those decisions.”

Will Norman (Walking and Cycling Commissioner, Transport for London),
Introductory meeting with House of Commons Transport Committee, 19 April 2017
