Open Streets Toronto: Sun. Aug. 18, 10am to 2pm

Open Streets is Toronto's largest free recreational program. Several times a year, it bans vehicles from downtown stretches of Bloor and Yonge. People traffic replaces car traffic, and the streets become “paved parks” where everybody can come out, have fun, and engage with each other. Next Sunday is one of those times!

Road Closures, 8:30am-3:00 pm: Bloor St (Ossington to Church) and Yonge St (Bloor to Queen). These are “soft” closings. Vehicles will still be able to cross the route at major intersections.

Activities: Expect games, performances, and places to dance. Check https://www.openstreetsto.org/ for specific programming.

Public Consultation on Multi-Tenant (Rooming) Houses: Thurs. Aug. 22

The City of Toronto is conducting a review of multi-tenant houses (also called rooming houses), and wants to hear from residents.
DEFINITION: A multi-tenant house is one where four or more people who pay individual rent share a kitchen and/or washroom. It’s an important part of the affordable rental housing market.
Multi-tenant houses are currently permitted in the former City of Toronto and some parts of Etobicoke and York. The review will focus on options to improve the licensing and regulation of these houses, including the rooming-house hearing process. More information is available at toronto.ca/roominghousereview

You are invited to attend a public consultation on Thursday, August 22 from 6-8 p.m. at Metro Hall, Room 308/309 (55 John Street). You can also send questions or provide feedback to mlsfeedback@toronto.ca until August 31, 2019. All feedback will be used to inform a report going to the Planning and Housing Committee in the fall of 2019.

Write a memoir? Learn Power Point or how to get the most from your Apple device? If you’re 4 to 8 years old, you can be a Mini-Maker, and if you’re 5 or younger you can come to have stories read to you; bring your parents too. Browse the list of activities for each branch and drop in to try them out, now and through the year.

HVRA Wants Your Input: Community Builder Awards, Charging Stations for Electric Vehicles

HVRA is looking for member opinions on two topics:
  1. Since 2002, HVRA has presented Community Builder Awards to people in our community who have made Harbord Village a better place through their actions. We recognize winners at our AGM and the Spring General Meeting as well as on our website and in  our print Newsletters. For awards at the upcoming Fall AGM, we are asking you, the members of HVRA, to consider who among your neighbours has planted a beautiful garden, or has made life easier for some in your community, or who has taken the lead on a particular issue, or anything similar. Please email your nominations to search2019@harbordvillage.com.
  1. HVRA is also asking whether there is local interest in having a public (Level 2 type) charger for electric vehicles in Harbord Village.  Please let SC Area Rep Simon Coleman know at simon.coleman@utoronto.ca if you have views.

Good Neighbours Building a Great Neighbourhood!
