Community Service Opportunity
Help Build A Habitat for Humanity House for an APS family!

A new Habitat build will begin Saturday August 10th and continue each Saturday through October 5th (except Saturday August 31st - Labor Day weekend). The build is being sponsored by Glenn Memorial Church, Cascade United Methodist Church, Lutheran Church of The Redeemer and St Mark United Methodist Church. All students and staff are welcome and will be helping an APS family get into a home!

The build details:

House Leader: Robell Awake

Build Address: 1940 CONRAD AVE SE
Homebuyer: Kutara Bloodworth
Family Members: Gabriel, son (11)
Family Profile: Ms. Kutara Bloodworth has been working as a para-pro at an Atlanta school for over 9 years. In her spare time, she enjoys decorating and running 5Ks. Gabriel is in the 6th grade and enjoys flag football at the Boys and Girls Club. Ms. Bloodworth is excited about the opportunity to build her own home in Lakewood Heights. She believes this will help her grow personally and do better in life. And, she also is excited about providing a long-term home for her son and a gathering place for her extended family.

The build takes place from 7:30 am-3:30 pm each Saturday. Volunteers must be 16 years or older, no skills required but skilled people are encouraged to join. Habitat will provide all building materials and tools. Water, snacks and lunch will be provided but anyone with special dietary needs is encouraged to bring their own.

Online signup is now open HERE so click on the link and sign up for as many days as you can.

The contact person is Jennifer Scott-Ward and she will be at the build each week except for August 10th (due to a family conflict out-of-town). Students and staff who attend should be sure to let Jennifer know that they are part of Grady High School!

Most importantly, students, families and staff who sign up need to be sure to show up and work the entire shift. The homeowner and Habitat program count on the work accomplished by the volunteers each week to stay on track.
