Business system gone amok
The other day, the kids and I indulged in one of my little pleasures.
Miniature golf.
We were in Vancouver on vacation and this presented the opportunity to explore new and different courses for us.
We searched online and found a place called West-Coast Mini Putt in Richmond.
We rode the Skytrain to get there.
Kirk, in particular, loves subways and elevated transit trains.
But when we arrived, it was disappointing.
We didn’t have an appointment.
They wouldn’t let us play without an appointment.
‘No Mini-Golf for you!’
You may believe that this was because the place was crazy-busy with tons of people and masses of screaming children.
You would be incorrect.
There were almost no people there.
‘We start each group 15 minutes apart so there isn’t any crowding,’ we were told.
As a result, the place was dead.
No exciting hubbub, no cheer.
We made a reservation and retired to a nearby mall food court for supper.
Later we came back at our scheduled time.
There were 6 other customers in the whole place even though they were ‘fully booked.’
Every inch of my existence was roiling in frustration.
Imagine the money being lost on purposefully choking the capacity of this facility?
Business systems should help, not hurt.
