NIHR focus on social care research

NIHR is investing in social care research with annual funding calls through the RfPB programme, under the banner Research for Social Care (RfSC). The RfSC call launches this month with a £3m budget as part of NIHR's commitment to improving social care through high quality evidence. Launch events for potential applicants include a joint RDS London/ RDS SE Roadshow, details below.  For more information about the funding call, please visit the NIHR website.

14 October, 14.00-17.00, NCVO, London N1 9RL 

Join us for information on all aspects of the RfSC funding call. Free attendance but you must registerIf you intend to apply, we strongly encourage you to attend. Programme and speakers to be confirmed, but will include:
  • Overview of RfSC funding call
  • Experiences of a successful applicant
  • Q&A with speakers.
We will also be holding a networking session later, where researchers can meet with the programme team and RDS representatives. Refreshments available on arrival and during the networking session. This event is co-hosted by RDS London @NIHR_RDSLondon and RDS South East @NIHR_RDSSE.
We will have several one-to-one sessions available with RDS advisers. Researchers currently (or considering) developing a funding proposal for submission to RfSC are encouraged to book a one-to-one to discuss their proposed research idea or study. Please email comms@rdslondon.co.uk.

RDS SE PI fund supports researchers with meaningful public involvement and its associated costs. Apply for one of our small grants (up to £300). Speak to your RDS SE Research Adviser for more information.

New NIHR centre for public involvement and research dissemination 

From April 2020 a new single centre will lead NIHR public involvement and research dissemination. It will look to improve research relevance for all by combining the strengths of current NIHR approaches to dissemination and patient and public involvement, engagement and participation (PPIE).

Florence Nightingale Foundation: Research Scholar award

The Florence Nightingale Foundation pioneers change and improvements in patient and health outcomes through nursing and midwifery clinical and research leadership. FNF offers two Research Scholarship Schemes:
  • A range of Research Internships are available.to support a research internship in nursing or midwifery. 
  • Research Scholarships  Masters dissertation or PhD course fees will be paid. Research must align with one of the following areas: The Management of Pain; The Management of End of Life Care; Enhancing Patient Safety

University of Surrey Internships:
Health Education Kent, Surrey and Sussex (NIHR/HEKSS) Integrated Clinical Academic Programme 

There are 8 internships available to a range of health practitioners. Successful interns are offered a bespoke learning and development programme, which is dependent on individual needs.

NIHR Policy Research Programme (PRP) Working Age Consultation Event 

24 October 2019, London

The NIHR Central Commissioning Facility and the NIHR Research Design Service (RDS) are running this event in London to inform a research specification for a future funding round and allow networking and potential collaborations for individuals from multidisciplinary backgrounds.  The all-day event includes key speakers, a priority setting workshop, and networking. Attendance is FREE and lunch is provided. Spaces limited.

NIHR, on behalf of the Department of Health and Social Care, invites outline proposals for a single research project to find out whether research activity in general practice is associated with better outcomes for patients. Findings will significantly influence policy and practice for supporting research in general practice and the wider primary care setting.
