What have we been up to this week?

Hello there! It's here! The little bit late 74th ScourgeBringer open development newsletter!

Previously on ScourgeBringer: we finished working on the skill tree and continued the hub world.

Last week, we continued to work toward our Gamescom demo target, and managed to finish it!

This means that the hub is now fully complete, as well as the main game loop. From now on, after loosing your first run, you will end up in the hub world which will serve as a starting point for every new run and as an access to the permanent skill tree. We also have all the skills up to the first world complete (that's a total of 13 skills out of the future 26 ones in the full game).

The hub world is so cool, both Florian and Joonas did a super job on it. We'd like to wait for the Alpha 4 to be ready before unveiling all of it, so here's just a small part of it. 😉

What I can tell is that bells will have something to do with the skills. 😋

Alpha 4 will release shortly after the Gamescom, we still have one more thing to implement before we can consider it ready: adding NPCs and dialogues (if you're thinking about the shop keeper, it's a fake NPC made out of a flat sprite, we intend to make it more lively and interactive).

This week, we are mostly preparing a few elements for the Gamescom (it's next week!), while taking a couple days off to be well prepared for the week of expo to come.

If you're planning to drop by the Gamescom, I will share all the details about our booth next week, and hopefully be able to organize a community event! We're super excited to showcase there and to meet some of you!

See you next week for the details and of course more news about what's to come.

Cheers,
Thomas

How is our budget doing?

Every week, we update our production budget based on our initial budget and our ongoing revenues.

ScourgeBringer budget is counted in "months of subsistence" instead of money. We believe that it is a more understandable way to explain how budgets are constructed and consumed.

Our remaining budget is: 8.53 months (37.08 weeks)*

  • So far, we consumed -17.25 months (-75 weeks) from working of this project;
  • And we consumed -1.22 months (-5.30 weeks) from investing (e.g. buying hardware, paying for services...);
  • We also earned back +15.00 months (+65.21 weeks) from our ongoing revenues (e.g. NeuroVoider & Boo! Greedy Kid sales, contract work...).

Our initial budget for ScourgeBringer was 12 months when we started.

For a more detailed breakdown of our budget construction, you can refer to the first issue of this newsletter.
*1 week = 0.23 month (based on a 365-day year and a 7-day week)
