MSDW Author Update - January 2020

Greetings and happy new year!

Hopefully you don't mind us reaching out since you have worked with our editorial team before. But if you'd prefer not to receive  updates for MSDW authors in the future, please unsubscribe.

We'll start this MSDW author update with a quick glance back at 2019. We published 659 articles on MSDW in 2019, with 135 from contributors like you. First, thanks to all of you who took the time to write or contribute in other ways like presenting a webcast, participating on a podcast, sitting for an interview, offering background guidance, or otherwise helping us continue to put out content that our readers value.

To end 2019, we spent some time collecting top articles from contributors across the top Dynamics product areas for the year:

We also looked back at the most important news developments of the year as covered by our editorial team, divided into the themes of product, licensing, and the partner channel.

My first reaction, especially on the product side, was how broad our product coverage needs to be just to be adequate - and how much broader it could still be. We will be pushing to do even more to report on the emerging Dynamics 365 products and their uptake by users. We will also be watching carefully to document the evolution of the Power Platform, and to continue with our increasing coverage of the Azure ecosystem (more on that below).

And underlying the products, of course, are the stories of Microsoft customers and partners working day after day to build meaningful solutions.

What we're working on (and how you can participate)

Podcast schedule

Our podcast continues to flourish, but with the new year up on us we are in search of new topics and guests. We welcome your suggestions! We find that podcasts work best when one or more of the following factors are present:
  • You have an achievement worth discussing like a notable go-live, open source project, or a new book
  • A Microsoft announcement or similar breaking news with a big impact on the ecosystem
  • A recent article or presentation that warrants more con
  • Commentary related to an important conference.
  • Other community developments and trends about which you want to get the word out

Power Platform: Beyond proof of concept

The Power Platform really seems to be a platform for every organization. There's proof that huge multi-nationals are adopting it, as are regional and local businesses. It's the type of cloud service that has the potential to turn other products and projects on their heads, perhaps in unexpected ways. For example, is there more value in building apps and automating processes around legacy ERP than there is in upgrading or migrating? Will companies look seriously at building Power Apps, or buying custom Power Apps instead of buying seats of a comparable Dynamics 365 app? Is there a red line that partners dare not cross today in the app building space?

We want to hear how your organization or your clients are tackling the really tough issues. Maybe Power Platform is the answer. Maybe it's not? We want your honest findings and analysis to help provide the complete picture.

More Azure coverage

In the new year, we’re also continuing to expand our coverage of Microsoft Azure and the services, tools, and techniques built around it. Do you want to share your thoughts on Azure strategy, managing a multi-cloud approach or using diverse services for databases, networking, storage, security, compute, AI, machine learning and more? We would love to share your perspectives with this fast-growing community.

Wanted: More educational webcasts

This is a great time to get on our 2020 webcast calendar by proposing an educational (non-promotional) webcast for MSDW readers. Have some ideas but not sure what might work best? Get in touch. We are always interested to talk about topics as well as interesting formats and unique approaches.

And more…

In addition to the areas mentioned above, here are themes and topics on which we are actively looking to publish articles with the help of contributors like you:
  • IoT scenarios and solutions
  • Finance where I'm from (for various countries, various ERPs)
  • Upgrades (ERP or CRM)
  • HR and Dynamics solutions
  • Process automation
  • Power Platform: Preparing your workforce
  • Cloud migration

Be in touch!

We hope to hear from you soon. We'd love to be a part of your 2020 professional goals and efforts.

All the best for a successful year,
