CAG member Colleen Black Semelka’s work is featured in the 2019 North Carolina Literary Review. “The North Carolina Literary Review (NCLR) is produced at East Carolina University and published and distributed by the University of North Carolina Press. Inspired by the North Carolina Literary and Historical Association to be a companion to the North Carolina Historical Review, NCLR publishes poetry, fiction, and nonfiction by and interviews with North Carolina writers and articles and essays about North Carolina writers and the rich literary history and culture of the Old North State.”

Galloway Ridge Exhibit Welcomes Area Artists

Beginning Watercolor Painting
6-class series with Beth Bale at Joyful Jewel
|
|
Watercolor artist Beth Bale will teach beginner watercolor painting classes starting in August. These classes are for people who want to learn watercolor techniques and become more confident in their use of this amazing artistic medium. No experience is necessary. Beth will teach specific watercolor techniques, with demonstrations, in each class. Students create a painting in each class as she guides the class in the painting for the day. Classes will focus on animals, landscapes, and more (with input from students who sign up). Classes are fun and encouraging and watercolor is the best!
Students will be sent the materials list so they can have their own supplies or may use Beth’s paints, paper, brushes and palettes for $5/class. Students using Beth’s 4 basic supplies will still need to bring the other items on the materials list.
Cost: $120 for the series of 6 classes (sorry, no refunds for classes missed)

Intermediate Watercolor Painting
6-class series with Beth Bale at Joyful Jewel
|
|
Beth Bale will lead 6 intermediate classes starting in August. These classes are for artists with experience in watercolor painting, who are comfortable with basic watercolor techniques and want to improve their skills and knowledge of watercolor painting. Beth will challenge students to expand their experiences, try new things, create good sketches, paint en plein air, pay attention to issues such as composition, values and perspective as well as using multiple techniques in each painting. As always, Beth will demo in each class and guide students in using the techniques discussed to create paintings of their chosen topic/photo. Students may work on any subjects they wish, but each class will focus on a topic or topics. Beth will guide students wishing to work on this topic, and provide individual help and guidance throughout class. Beth is a fun and encouraging teacher who wants to bring out the most creative part of each student and help them gain confidence.
Students will be provided with the materials list for the classes so they can come prepared for class and can work on paintings between classes.
Cost: $120 for the series of 6 classes

Beth is a member of Chatham Artists Guild, Sanford Brush and Palette Club, and a signature member of the Watercolor Society of NC. She has won awards from WSNC, Chatham Artists Guild, and Sanford Brush and Palette Club for her watercolor paintings of nature and animals in a colorful and loose style, with focus on light and shadow. Beth will teach students to paint with freedom and fun, with a no-pressure style that helps students find their own styles and preferences. Come create your own piece of mosaic art at Santosa Studio! In this weekend workshop, you will learn basic mosaic techniques which will include designing, cutting glass, adhering the glass to the substrate, and grouting. Working in a non-judgmental and playful environment, students will focus on personal expression and their own creative journey. They will learn to connect more authentically with themselves, as well as reconnect with the present moment through creative expression. This workshop is perfect for people who have never painted as well as experienced artists who are blocked or need to loosen up with a different perspective/approach.
