MINISTRY TO STATE NEWS

MTS UPDATES
PICTURE COMING
It is with great joy that I announce that William Stockdale has joined MNA staff as a Ministry Associate with Ministry to State in DC. Will's responsibilities in DC will include:

Developing the Commons program into a year-round program serving the interns on the Hill and various agencies.

Helping to establish a fellows program for college graduates to be equipped for public service as followers of Christ.

Ministering to junior and mid-level staffers serving in in DC.

Will grew up in Aledo, Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University in 2012.  Since graduating from college, he has worked in the oil and gas industry, technology, and political consulting for a state campaign.  Will most recently worked in high school ministry at Park Cities Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Texas and is currently completing the final requirements for his Master of Divinity from Reformed Theological Seminary in Dallas.

He will be relocating to Washington DC this month during the August Congressional Recess and join Chuck Garriott, Michael Langer, and Mary Frances Dunlap in serving Christ through serving those who serve our nation.
CONNECT WITH US
COMMONS was the place to be in D.C. this summer.

Commons comes to an end for the summer, tonight. Over the summer 25-30 interns gathered each week for dinner and conversations with speakers sharing about their life, work, and faith.

This year interns heard from a former U.N. ambassador who fasted for 22 days regarding world hunger, a cabinet level senior counsel who writes policy impacting tens of thousands, a legislative assistant who was shot, a press secretary who understands the importance of navigating the news cycle, and other veterans of service to our nation who had much wisdom to offer from a Christian worldview.

We are already looking forward to next year!

It's been a horrible week!
by MTS Associate Director Michael Langer

It’s been a horrible week.

Just over a week ago, 4 people were killed and 13 others injured during a mass shooting in Gilroy, California. Then, on Sunday, there were two more mass shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio.  Sadly, it seems unlikely they will be the final mass shootings of the year.

The Bible makes one thing very clear, in the face of suffering, oppression, and horror, God’s people are called to pray. In fact, praying is always the MOST that we can do. In prayer, we take our pain, frustration, confusion, and our requests to our loving Father who “so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”  Prayer is so important that Jesus made it a point to teach his early followers how to pray during his Sermon on the Mount,

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.” (Matthew 6:9-13)

So, we must pray! We should take time right now to pray this prayer, and cry out in petition that God’s will would be done on earth as it is in heaven and that we would be delivered from evil.

There is, however, growing frustration with the phrase, “thoughts and prayers.” Rightly so.
While prayer is always the MOST we can do, it is rarely ALL we should do.
