The Evolution of Technology in Biomedical Science: Promises and Challenges

On October 21, 2019, the National Academy of Medicine will host a scientific symposium as part of its 49th Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. Held at the historic National Academy of Sciences building, this year's symposium will examine the tension between patient privacy and data sharing, the use of artificial intelligence in health care delivery, and the ethical implications of human genome editing.

Keith Wailoo, Professor of History and Public Affairs at Princeton University, will deliver the keynote address: a socio-historical understanding of the impact of technological advances on health and society. Victor J. Dzau, the president of the NAM, will moderate a special President's Forum on the societal implications of technological advances in biomedical science (panelists to be announced).

Full Day In-Person Attendance: The scientific program runs from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM and includes the President's Forum. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Cost: $150
