NEW SPECIES OF SPIDER FOUND AT THE FARM!

One of the highlights of the Winter Earth Kids was having Robert Whyte, co-author of ‘A Field Guide to Australian Spiders’ visit to talk to the children about spiders and help them to catch and then identify them. Robert thinks that one of the spiders found by some of the children may be a species that hadn’t been classified (awaiting confirmation). The spider is from the orb-weaving family Araneidae, and belongs to the genus Anepsion. With a body length of only 3mm, it is quite a small spider, and it is quite beautiful.

The Earth Kids Homeschool Program is running on Tuesday mornings from August 13th to September 17th. We will have guest presenters Bethan Burton and Richard Nielsen join us for nature journaling  and native bee keeping, and we will have a focus on trees, experiment with eco-arts and shelter building and do lots of nature awareness and connection activities.

The Spring Earth Kids Program, running for 5 days from September 23rd to 17th is now open for bookings. Earlybird prices end on September 2nd!

CITY FARM NURSERY - Tuesday to Saturday 8.30am - 12.30pm and Sunday 6.30am-12.30pm

City Farm Nursery will have a stall on Gregory Terrace as part of Green the Street at the EKKA, until August the 18th. Make sure to come past and say hello!

We have a diverse selection of fruit trees available including jaboticaba, black and white sapotes, native finger limes, lots of berries, jackfruit, pawpaws and papayas. All are suitable for our climate so try and get them in before Spring time and our soils begin to warm up. A great gift for Dad for Father's Day!

Remember to enrich your soil with compost, manure and other organic matter before planting your fruit trees. Fertilise all established fruit trees now to promote flowering and fruit in the warmer months.

Check citrus trees for swellings on young branches and stems – the signs of gall wasp. Using a sharp knife, slice open one side of these galls to kill the wasp larvae before they hatch in spring.

Passionfruit vines are heavy feeders and will gobble up any goodness you can give them, so treat them to some fine dining of seaweed solution and compost in the coming weeks.

We are looking for SMALL Jars! so if you have any please drop by we would love to take them.
