New Walk Announced!

Join DC Audubon for a bird walk at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. The marsh, ponds, and woodlands provide habitat for Green Herons, Great Egrets, Osprey, and Pileated Woodpeckers. As summer draws to a close, we have the chance of catching early-migrating shorebirds and songbirds passing through on their way south.

Meet us in the parking lot of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens off of Anacostia Ave NE on Saturday, August 24th, at 8:00AM.  As always, please be mindful of weather conditions, dress and hydrate appropriately, and use caution when traveling to new or unfamiliar birding locations. Get your ducks in a row and register here starting August 10th.

Highlights from the Audubon Convention

Last month, four of DC Audubon Society's volunteer leaders traveled to Milwaukee for the 2019 Audubon Convention.  Over a few days, we were trained in a host of topics like:  Social Media Outreach, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, starting a Plants for Birds Program, Advocate Workshops, making bird trips accessible for people with mobility challenges, and more.

It cannot be overstated how the content from this year’s convention will advance the work of our chapter. We’re very empowered and energized to bring what we learned into practice to benefit birds and people in the District of Columbia. Having the opportunity to connect and engage with chapters across the network will strengthen our combined power and passion for the work of making the world a better place for birds and for people.  Expect to see new programs from your hardworking board!

If you want to see what you missed, you can check out the keynotes on Facebook with Audubon President & CEO David Yarnold and guest speaker Winona LaDuke. (Links will autoplay videos).  See you in 2021 in Tacoma for the next one!
