SEPTEMBER 2019
We have good reason to Jump for Joy for what Jesus is doing in many lives!
Here are highlights from June to September
  • Latino Coordinator Transition.  With mixed emotions, we announce that after 16 years of service, Rev. Joel Guerra has decided to transition from his role as Latino Coordinator of the SoCal District. We appreciate his fruitful service, love for God, and the Church of the Nazarene. On August 3, 2019, all Latino pastors and the Latino congregations were invited to celebrate his assignment. Upon his recommendation, Pastor Diego Ferrero was appointed coordinator and Pastor Loyoda Ruiz was appointed the director of SELA.  Thank you, Pastor Joel, for your passion for the church and God!
  • New Church Planting Initiatives: Korean House churches in the San Diego Area, Brawley Hispanic (opens 10/1/2019); Spring Valley Community Church (Organization 10/1/2019)
  • SD Mission has unanimously approved a capital campaign to build a Student Ministries Center explicitly targeting youth and children. Pastor Tony Miller enthusiastically reports $500K in commitments. The goal is to construct debt-free.
  • Tri-District Retreat Offering Response.  On the first day of the retreat, the leadership team was met with a severe financial shortfall to meet expenses. After prayer, God answered with a surprise adjustment by the location's administrator and the generous offerings of the campers. Through several electronic methods besides the typical offering plate, the event generated sufficient funds to pay all indebtedness, create a balance for next year's retreat,  and raise a record offering for a missional project. With the help of Judy Enchelmeyer, the use of a Square Reader was added to the methods of giving, and $4652 was received.
  • Final Worship Service for the Hemet COTN was held at the Florida location on September 1, 2019. They will relocate at the Seventh Day Adventist Church.  Escrow is expected to close on September 20, 2019, on the sale of the church. A developer is purchasing the church, and a charter school began classes this week.
  • Men's Retreat at Palomar Mt featured keynote speaker DS Rev. Sam Flores.  Services were characterized by the high response to the messages focused on regeneration and sanctification. The men raised over $4K in special offerings. We thank the Men's Retreat Staff and Rev. Rob Altice for their leadership.
  • Don't forget to note the SDMI astounding church reports below!
  • Summer VBS Programs have witnessed new recent records of attendance at several churches. Banning COTN reports 38 children and 29 workers.  El Centro experienced the same results with children and workers!
  • Rosa and Sergio Estrada receive Community Excellence Award from the Imperial Regional Detention Facility for their weekly prison work. Congratulations!
  • River Church Award is a new award for District Assembly.  It will be given to churches that plant churches.
  • All District Auxillary Councils met August 24, 2019, to plan and coordinate the district calendar. It was an exciting event! Thank you to the Chairpersons: Brenda Ritchie (NMI); David Hazal (SDMI); and Rod Amstutz (NYI).

New Way to Pay Allocations
Use Funding the Mission for All Allocations
The method for conveying your district allocation has changed.  Pastors, please contact your treasurer and instruct them to include the payment of the District Unified Allocation through the same website they use to make the WEF and P&B payments.  No longer send your payment to the district office. Note that the District Unified payment includes the Education budget, Home Missions, District Operations, and Auxiliary budgets.  The percentage is 7.25%. For assistance please contact David Difalco (ddifalco@yvnazarene.org) or the site’s “support” page.
