The Lord's Prayer: Lead Us Not Into Temptation...

In a world that has been corrupted by sin, we find ourselves constantly surrounded by temptations. If we think we are going to get to the point as Christians where temptations don’t bother us anymore, we are underestimating the tenacity of the devil in dragging people away from God. The devil makes sure we never are short on opportunities to indulge our sinful desires, and without God’s help, these daily battles are ones that we would lose far more often than we would win. In the Lord’s prayer, we lay our temptations before our God and we pray that he would keep his promise to give us the strength we need to resist them. Worship at St. John’s features a sermon based on Job 1:6-22.

Readings to prepare for worship:
1 Samuel 3:1-10 - When the LORD spoke, Samuel listened.
Colossians 3:12-17 - When the Lord speaks, we listen and hear of his love, forgiveness, and peace.
Luke 10:38-42 - When the Lord spoke, Mary sat at his feet and listened.

Summer Bible Study

Summer is coming to an end, and so is our Sunday morning Sunday Bible study. These last three weeks of summer will feature a series of one-week Bible studies led by the St. John's pastoral staff. We invite you to join us for as many of these individual sessions as you can. Hope to see you on Sunday morning!

Council Project of the Month
Lau Fund
St. John’s recognizes that the cost of Christian education can be a challenge for some families. The Lau Fund is designed to provide financial assistance for families with children attending St. John’s Lutheran School, Wisconsin Lutheran High School, or Wisconsin Lutheran College. Please consider contributing to this fund by using your green Above & Beyond envelope and marking it “Council Project.” Checks should be made payable to St. John’s.
