Our next Network Meeting will be held this Monday 12th of August, 12:30pm at the Gisborne Council Chambers. Come along to find out more about TCV, network with other groups in the Tairāwhiti community, and enjoy a cuppa. We will be hearing from guest speakers, as well as sharing what each organisation has been doing recently in our catch up round.

Kia ora koutou,

I hope those of you who went along to the Home and Lifestyle Expo on the weekend enjoyed yourselves, and maybe said hi to some of our members at the TCV stall.

Here we are again for our weekly catch up of exciting things going on in the Tairāwhiti region. Hopefully you'll find an event, idea or learning opportunity below that is interesting to you.

All the best for the week ahead!

Community Networks Aotearoa Update
– Ros Rice, Chief Executive

For those who don’t know us – Community Networks Aotearoa (CNA) is the umbrella organisation for local community networks throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. Our goal is to empower and strengthen the community sector by supporting community networks across Aotearoa. Here’s a quick update on what we’ve been up to.

We are aware that sometimes it is difficult to see how political changes can affect the work happening at the grass roots.  Today I want to tell you about something I am working on that although maybe not immediately clear how, will affect every single legal organisation.

Work has restarted in Government on changes to the Incorporated Societies Act.  I have been with several groups of people discussing what the proposed changes are, and if they are advantageous to our memberships and to those our members connect to.  In the majority of cases, most non-profits are at the very least Incorporated Societies and changes are coming.   Soon we are sure will be a review of the Charitable Trust Act.

We are keeping a close eye on all this.  If this is not directly of interest to you, it must be of interest to your Governing Committee or Board.  Please pass this information onto your Governance committee and watch this space for more information.
