FEATURED FEATURE

Introducing the Custom Knife Gate Valve Safety Guards engineered by AirVAXX.

Designed for operator and equipment protection, the guard is made up of two pieces, joined by four bolts, making for easy installation and removing when servicing is required. During a recent build, our customer raised concerns for the safety of their operators, who could get their hand stuck in the valve. After approaching a manufacturer, they said they had no component to solve this issue, so we got to work on designing our own. Air and Gas Industries cadet mechanical engineer, Josh lead this project. The process involved; measuring the valve, estimating clearances and drawing 3D models of the design before being laser cut.

A few words about the designer - Josh

Josh has been with Air and Gas Industries for three months while continuing his mechanical engineering studies at university. Josh spends most of his time at Air and Gas, drawing, drafting and designing components whilst also creating customer manuals. Josh has said that he has learnt a lot since working with us and has enjoyed seeing where his university studies apply to the industry.

More about the product

While this product prevents injury to operators, it also protects the valve from foreign objects that could harm the equipment. The stainless-steel material is perfect for the exterior of the truck, preventing corrosion and does not require painting. The sight holes are a perfect size, allowing operators to see if the valves are open without being open to any risk of injury or damage to the operator or valve.

INDUSTRY ADVANCEMENTS
Safety Advancements

Accidental roll-away of heavy vehicles is a dangerous situation that occurs far too often.  A truck operator who forgets to apply the vehicle handbrake when exiting the vehicle may have the frightening experience where the truck uncontrollably rolls away. The results can be devastating.

Fleet owners and managers should be aware that engineering controls are available to prevent such an accident.

Over the past 30 years, the design team at Air and Gas Industries has continued to develop and refine technical solutions for truck roll-away and drive-away protection systems.

Our roll-away and drive-away technology easily integrates with OEM systems to provide a superior level of protection.  Contact us for more information on how we can help to avoid uncontrollable roll-away and drive-away events.

This year marks 45 years of trading for Air and Gas Industries so we thought it would be appropriate to dedicate a section of our newsletter to the history of our business.

One of the most challenging times the business has ever faced was in Air and Gas Industries' first week of trading. The first contract secured by owners Bill and Faye Jenkins was for the Gas Supply Company (now Origin Energy) and involved doing changeovers for two LPG trucks. The trucks were moved to the first premises in Seventeen Mile Rocks and were left for the weekend. Unfortunately, that weekend marked the beginning of the 1974 Brisbane floods. It was another two weeks from that devastating weekend until Bill and Faye were even able to gain access into their Seventeen Mile Rocks property, only to find the trucks floating in water. Bill, Faye and Frank Daw then spent the following weeks drying all the electrical boards with hair dryers, towels and cotton buds. A sincere thank you to Mr Gordon Leslie from Gas Supply Company who stood by Air and Gas Industries during this difficult time.

The other major hurdle Air and Gas Industries faced following the floods was communication. Telephone lines were severely damaged during the floods and it was not until 6 months later that Air and Gas Industries’ phone lines were finally reconnected. In the days of no internet and mobile phones, all of Air and Gas Industries’ landline calls were diverted to the Jenkins family home. Faye had the challenge of answering calls in the Moggill home and communicating them to the Seventeen Mile Rocks premises until Air and Gas Industries’ phone line was reconnected. For a new startup they certainly faced what may have seemed like insurmountable challenges in their first year of operation, but here we are now celebrating 45 years of operation.
