Harris County, Texas -- The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office (HCFMO) was awarded a copyright for Blue NIMS, a training program that was developed to meet the growing demands of complex incident responses. This is the first-ever copyright awarded to Harris County and the HCFMO. On April 30, 2019, the HCFMO received approval from Harris County Commissioners Court to apply for the copyright.
"We are extremely happy to have a copyright for Blue NIMS, which was developed by our agency. This course links national standards and best practices in public safety response operations,” said Harris County Fire Marshal Laurie L. Christensen. "We look forward to working with all our law enforcement partners in providing this training."
“This training provides a model to apply these principles across different incidents," said Assistant Chief Rodney Reed, who developed Blue NIMS. "For example, this training can be applied to a single-vehicle accident or a multi-agency response to an active attacker incident.”
The Blue NIMS course takes the fundamental principles taught by the FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS), as well as the Incident Command System (ICS), and breaks the information down into an everyday practical application. In this course, officers learn by taking ICS fundamentals and linking them with current and best practices in law enforcement and unified response operations.
