SUMMER 2019
House tiles from a Claymobile summer residency.
FOURTH EDITION: Heading back into the school year with the Claymobile!

A summer complete with mugs, bobble heads, and butter dishes!
The Claymobile had another jammed packed summer with residencies, workshops, and festivals all throughout the city. We returned to many familiar sites like 11th Street Family Health Services and Project HOME, and made connections with new community members like Grace Trinity Academy and Jane Addams Place Shelter. We love partnering with new sites who encourage us to think outside of the box. At Grace Trinity Academy we focussed on lessons from around the world. Our Teaching Artist created butter dishes with students to celebrate the food of France, blue and white decorated bowls inspired by Chinese porcelain, and safari animals representative of the African deserts. Students were able to make connections between their creations and different world cultures!

As summer comes to a close, we are looking forward to a new school year. As a team, we take time in August to reflect on lessons learned and begin planning for upcoming residencies. If you are interested in learning more about the Claymobile, or are ready to schedule sessions for the fall, please reach out soon! Our schedule fills up quickly as September approaches.

Spotlight: Did you know the Claymobile is for adults too?
The Claymobile is well known as a program for children, but did you know we work with adults as well? Over the past year we held a workshop at the Philadelphia Museum of Art for their young friends group, several workshops at different InnovAge LIFE sites with their older adult day program, and a workshop for college students at Drexel University. We love sharing clay with all members of our community. With our talented team of teaching artist, we can customize staff bonding workshops for your company retreat, a relaxing creative clay workshop for an older adult program, or any other group that wants to have fun with clay! The photo on the right is from a one-time workshop held at Active Day of Center City with their older adult population.
