Luis Carcache, MD
Assistant Professor
Luis Carcache, MD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health (DOPBH). Dr Carcache attended medical school at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He completed his residency training in general psychiatry and fellowship training in child and adolescent psychiatry at Jackson Memorial Hospital.  He is board certified in General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.  Dr Carcache serves as Assistant Clerkship Director for the DOPBH.  Dr Carcache provides patient care at Florida International University (FIU) Health located at the FIU Modesto Maidique Campus and at Broward Health Medical Center. He specializes in the psychiatric care of individuals with autism spectrum and neurodevelopmental disorders.  He is also a founding faculty member of the EMBRACE Program at FIU. The EMBRACE program is a comprehensive and integrated clinical and training program dedicated to providing medical and behavioral health care to adults with autism spectrum and neurodevelopmental disorders. Dr Carcache supervises and teaches 3rd and 4th year FIU medical students, FIU physician assistant students, and Broward Health pediatric residents during their psychiatry clinical rotation.

This past April, Lisa Lee, MBA and Natasha Lopez graduated from the Leadership Education Advancement Program (LEAP) program here at FIU. LEAP is designed to help FIU’s supervisors learn and practice leadership skills, which are crucial to managing and inspiring their teams. The goal of the program is to enhance management skills that support institutional knowledge, workforce excellence, and service excellence.

We are pleased to announce that Margaret Sibley, PhD has earned tenure. Dr Sibley’s track record of extramural research, peer reviewed publications and other scholarly activities has been impressive.  In 2015, she received the FIU Top Scholar Award for her dedication to excellence and accomplishments in research and scholarship. She has demonstrated commitment to FIU, her profession, a multitude of learners and our community in general.

Third-year Medical Student
Michelle Trieu, BS won the American Psychiatric Association 2018 Medical Student/Resident poster competition in the category Curriculum Development and Education. The Student/Resident Poster Competition is an APA Annual Meeting tradition that allows residents and medical students to attend the meeting, present their research, and be recognized for quality work. 
    
Diana Luciano, BHSA, BA
Office Specialist
Diana Luciano, BHSA, BA joined the DOPBH in May 2018. She is a FIU alumni graduating in 2016 with two bachelor degree in Health Services Administration and Psychology. Prior to joining FIU, she worked at West Kendall Baptist Hospital for the Family Medicine Residency Program. In August 2018, Ms Luciano will start the Master in Business Administration Program. She plans to specialize in Finance. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and researching various topics of history.
 
Mauricio Rodriguez, MD
Assistant Professor

Mauricio Rodriguez, MD is Board Certified in Psychiatry. Dr Rodriguez joined the DOPBH in June 2018. He earned a bachelor degree in Biological Sciences at FIU in early 2000. He obtained his medical doctor degree from the Universidad Central Del Este in the Dominican Republic. After graduating from medical school, he worked in emergency psychiatry for almost two years serving the community in Miami, Florida.
Dr Rodriguez completed his residency at Icahn School of Medicine, at Mount Sinai, in Elmhurst Hospital, Queens, New York. Elmhurst  Hospital has one of the largest psychiatric out-patient clinics in New York. During his residency, he performed Global Health work in St Vincent and the Grenadines. He trained in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas. While at Baylor, he worked in multiple clinics including the Menninger Clinic. He also has ample experience working in a private group practice where he was able to develop and manage his own child and adolescent clinic.
Dr Rodriguez is now an attending physician specialized in transitional age youth. He provides clinical services at FIU's Student Health Center. He is committed to improving mental health access and working with the Hispanic population in South Florida.

Esteban Cardonne, MD
Fellow, Citrus Health Network-FIU Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Program
Esteban Cardonne, MD is a part of  the first class of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Program. Dr Cardonne received his medical doctor degree from the Havana Higher Institute of Medical Sciences in Cuba, in 1993, and his nursing degree from the Instituto Politecnico de la Salud “Lidia Doce” in 1996. He went on to complete a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency at CONACEM in Chile, in 2002. He worked at Felix Bulnes Hospital in Santiago. After coming to the United States in 2006, he worked at Tacare Agency, writing, developing and managing nursing care plans and obtaining insurance approvals. Since 2006 Dr Cardonne has been working as a Psychiatric Registered Nurse in the Behavioral Health Department at Mt Sinai Medical Center, Miami Beach . His real passion is to understand life, ourselves, and the world around us. Dr Cardonne has been part of the psychoanalytic psychotherapy program of the of the Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Center in Miami for the last two years. He will begin the training program in Adult Psychoanalysis at the Florida Psychoanalytic Center next year.
 
Victor Guzman, MD
Fellow, Citrus Health Network-FIU Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Program
Victor Guzman, MD is a part of our first class of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellows. Dr Guzman received his medical doctor degree from the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña Escuela de Medicina in the Dominican Republic in 2007. He came to the US in 2007, initially worked as a phlebotomist, eventually becoming a manager for the American Red Cross Center based at Miami Children’s Hospital and later at Blood Centers of South Florida. In 2010, he has worked as a care manager in the emergency department and behavioral health unit at Mt Sinai Medical Center, Miami Beach. He also worked as a care manager for Medica Health Plans, evaluating Skilled Nursing facilities. Dr Guzman completed clinical observerships in Florida, New Jersey, and Louisiana. Dr Guzman has a sport pilot’s license, and his hobbies include aviation and chess.
Elizabeth Hoy, MD, MSPH

Elizabeth Hoy, MD, MSPH is also a part of the inaugural class of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Program. Dr Hoy received her MD degree from Tulane University in 2014. Her prior degrees include a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Loyola University, New Orleans, and a Master of Science in Pharmacology from Tulane University. After medical school, Dr Hoy obtained a Master of Science in Public Health degree at the University of Miami. In addition, Dr Hoy has also worked as a Clinical Research Assistant in the Department of Neurology at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine and as a Medical Research Technician at Tulane University. Dr Hoy has experience as a teaching assistant in a variety of medical school courses, as well as public health courses, and has continued to mentor medical students during her psychiatry residency.
Emilio Bustamante, MD
PGY-1, Citrus Health Network-FIU Psychiatry Residency Program 
Emilio Bustamante, MD, received his medical degree from Universidad de Ciencias Medicas de la Habana, in Havana, Cuba, in 1998. After coming to the United States he worked in various positions within the mental health field. He chose Psychiatry because he believes the mind plays a pivotal role in the life of a human being and society. His interests include spending time outdoors, visiting national parks with his family, and breeding exotic plants and fish.

Raymond Gonzales, MD
PGY-1, Citrus Health Network-FIU Psychiatry Residency Program 
Raymond Gonzales, MD received his degree from American University of the Caribbean, in St. Maarten in December 2017. His main interest is in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. His other interests include, music production as well as playing guitar and piano, outdoor activities, hiking, ultimate frisbee, staying current with the NFL and NBA, longboarding, concerts, and attending music festivals.
 

Emanuel Martinez, MD
PGY-1, Citrus Health Network-FIU Psychiatry Residency Program  
Emanuel Martinez, MD received his degree from FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM) in 2018. Dr Martinez was part of the Psychiatry Interest Group at the HWCOM since its inception. He has been interested in psychiatry since he started medical school and has rotated in various fields of psychiatry including child and adolescent, forensics and inpatient adult psychiatry. His interests include spending time with his family and friends, traveling, playing soccer, and fishing.
 

Mailyn Santana, MD

Mailyn Santana, MD received her degree from University of Medicine and Health Science, St Kitts, in 2018. Prior to that, she graduated from FIU with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She decided to pursue Psychiatry because it was one of her favorite subjects in medical school. Her interests include salsa dancing, traveling, live music, and do it yourself home projects.
