Dear Friends,

Welcome to the third week of our focus on the gifts of creation.

This week, as we Listen to the Voice of Creation, we invite you to continue to reflect on the
Haudenosaunee Thanksgiving Address: Greetings to the Natural World.  Our focus this week is on the gifts of plants and herbs.

Season of Creation Begins With Prayer Service
On Thursday, September 1, 2022, the Wheaton Franciscans, in collaboration with the Diocese of Joliet Laudato Si’ Ministry, opened the Season of Creation with a prayer service at Our Lady of the Angels Chapel.  More than 50 people joined us in the Chapel while many more viewed the service on livestream.
The prayer service was planned and led by the young adults participating in the Diocese of Joliet Laudato Si’ Ministry led by Kayla Jacobs. The Wheaton Franciscan community served as hosts for this special event. Sr. Barb Nelson, IBVM, offered an engaging reflection reminding all of us that we are called to discipleship and, therefore, we are called to care for all of God’s creation.
This collaborative, intergenerational event is one small example of how “All of us can cooperate as instruments of God for the care of creation, each according to his or her own culture, experience, involvements and talents.” (Laudato Si’ #14)

Volunteer Help Needed

In October we plan to resume our monthly Coffee &… following the Mass on the first Sunday of the month. We are seeking one or two people to serve as the Hospitality Coordinator. This is an important volunteer position.
1st Sunday Coffee &… provides an opportunity for the Wheaton Franciscan faith and friends community to gather, meet new and old friends, welcome visitors, and build a welcoming community.
The Volunteer Hospitality Coordinator will serve the Wheaton Franciscan Community by overseeing the monthly
Coffee &..., including coordinating and scheduling monthly hosts for the 1st Sunday Coffee.
More information on the responsibilities can be found here.
We will begin recruiting monthly hosts in late October.
By volunteering to assist with Coffee & …, you are truly helping us to embody a spirit of hospitality and communion.

If you are interested in this important role, please contact
