Around the Diocese

Upcoming Events
As church communities, we seek to carry out God’s mission in a diverse world blessed with myriad gifts to take it from strength. Suppose you have thought about how to reach Spanish speakers in our midst? In that case, we are pleased to present a resource to help with that, L.A.T.I.N.O., for you to explore independently or with support from Diocesan House or others from our wider church community. L.A.T.I.N.O. will be an organic resource that will be ever-adapting and ever-evolving as our missional contexts change, so that even after its launch this Hispanic Heritage Month (which begins September 15th), check back regularly to find what is new.
Christ Church, Elizabeth City Was in the News

Christ Church was recently featured in The Daily Advance of Elizabeth City with this story:

The Rev. Daniel Cenci tolled the church bells at Christ Episcopal Church one of 70 times Friday in memory of Queen Elizabeth II, who died Thursday at age 96. Elizabeth II was queen of the United Kingdom and British Commonwealth Realms for 70 years. “Although an independently governed province, the Episcopal Church is the American branch of the Church of England and part of the worldwide Anglican Communion,” Cenci said.
North Carolina Council of Churches Seeks Reform of Cash Bail in NC Counties

The North Carolina Council of Churches is joining an Interfaith Coalition to seek reform of Cash Bail in North Carolina’s Counties. Cash Bail disproportionately affects the poor and people of color. Those who cannot afford bail can be kept in jail awaiting trial for low level, non-violent crimes. The Coalition will seek to provide alternatives to Cash Bail which will allow judges discretion in dealing with these cases.

If you or someone in your congregation is interested in taking part, please get in touch with Rev. Richard Elliott (St. Andrew's On-the-Sound, Wilmington) at rge3@saots.net, and he can give further information.
