ISMRD Seeks Treasurer
Job: Treasurer for Board of Directors of the International Society for Mannosidosis and Related Diseases (ISMRD).
Job Overview:
The Treasurer position is a board position on the ISMRD Board of Directors. This position is responsible for financial management and oversight, operating budgets and reporting. This position is also responsible as a financial liaison to the rest of the board. The Treasurer manages accounting staff or retained accounting firm and reviews accounting reports.
Expected Volunteer Hours: 5-10 hours per month
Job Responsibilities:
The Treasurer manages the financial affairs of the organization. The Treasurer should be knowledgeable about who has access to the organization’s funds and any outstanding bills or debts owed. The Treasurer should create and maintain systems for ensuring the organization’s ongoing solvency and oversee the development of the organization’s financial policies.
The Treasurer is responsible for preparing, or facilitating the preparation of an annual budget, as well as regularly monitoring and comparing the actual revenues and expenses incurred against such budget. The Treasurer should have thorough knowledge and understanding of the organization’s financial reports. The Treasurer is also responsible for ensuring the completion of
required financial reporting forms (including the IRS Form 990) in a timely manner and making these forms available for the board’s review.
The Treasurer should be able to translate financial concepts and information for board members who do not have financial backgrounds or substantial financial experience. The Treasurer should spend time learning the particulars of the organization’s finances and the applicable laws. The Treasurer will facilitate and encourage the board’s strategic thinking about the financial vitality of the organization in relation to its advancement of the organization’s mission.
Qualifications:
- Working experience with profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and budgets.
- The Treasurer must possess the ability to work with little or no supervision.
- Can learn new software programs if necessary.
- Must be self-motivated.
- Experience with non-profits and non-profit accounting regulations preferred.
