Hot Asian meals pick up at Asian Media Access' office for Minneapolis families in need. Started in January 2022 and is on-going. Must be a Minneapolis resident to qualify.

Pick up on Wednesdays only from 5:00pm - 6:00pm. Limited to 13 families each week with 3 meal boxes per family, regardless of family size. Each family is supported for weekly pick-up for up to 4 weeks.

A Series of Vaccination Information Articles - ARTICLE #6

 
Many of Minnesota’s African immigrants and refugees moved to the United States to give their children better futures, but COVID-19 has put that opportunity at risk. Parents raising young children during the pandemic have faced the crisis in two ways. First, there are the economic hardships of unemployment and the constant worry of how to provide for your family. Second, there are the difficulties of supporting children through the many changes COVID made to everyday life.

The transition to at-home learning left a lot of children feeling isolated and anxious about losing family members. Community health expert Fred Ndip explains, “It was terrifying. We lost a lot of community members both here in the US and back home, so it created a lot of anxiety.”

"All of Us" Research Project


Asian Media Access was funded 4 yearw in the row to work on the “All of Us Research Program” (AoURP).   This National Institute of Health (NIH)’s program is designed to aid in gathering health-related data from over one million people living in the United States to improve health and it’s associated research.
 
Despite the prowess of modern medicine, there are still far too many diseases running rampant that have no proven form of treatment or prevention – entering the Precision Medicine, a revolutionary approach to disease prevention and treatment that takes into account individual differences in lifestyle, environment, and biology.  Researchers will use data from this program - AoURP in order to learn more about how individual differences can influence health and disease.

An Innovative Way to introduce Blueline Station Design


Asian Media Access has teamed up with Pan Asian Arts Alliance - a group of young Asian American artists working together to support the Blueline community engagement effort through artistic innovation.

Since 2020, the Metro Blue Line Extension Light Rail Transit (BLRT) has contracted 15 community and cultural groups to conduct extensive community engagement regarding the new direction of the BLRT project, route selection and station study area processes, along with identifying community concerns regarding displacement. In June of 2022, a route was recommended that has been informed by this community engagement process.

AMA Youth Interview


Ace Xiong discovered Asian Media Access through the Step Up Program, an internship opportunity goaled to build a diverse, skilled, and equitable workforce. Asian Media Access is one of the internship options that is offered through Step Up, and after careful research of the AMA organization, Xiong felt that the mission that AMA strived for resonated best with him. One of the reasons being was that Xiong was interested in an environment that cares for the people and the community.

Do you live in the Frogtown or Rondo neighborhood areas? Have an interest in impacting policy and community needs through art? Apply to participate in the Photovoice Project this fall! 

Led by Springboard's Ricardo BeairdSam Buffington, and researcher Dr. Kalen Flynn (University of Chicago) the Photovoice project will build off of the narrative change work created through the Artists Respond: People, Place, and Prosperity Project and ask community members to respond and share their stories related to this work. Photovoice is a research method that emphasizes community voice and expression through photography and storytelling. During photovoice projects, participants and researchers work together to frame research questions and make meaning of pictures taken by participants in their community. 

Participants will learn the basics of camera use, discuss safety and ethical considerations and practices, and meet regularly in a facilitated group to show and discuss their images.
