DIVE IN TO PAST THE SHALLOWS
All hands are on deck for the world premiere of Past the Shallows at the Salamanca Arts Centre in Tasmania!

Skilfully adapted by Julian Larnach, Favel Parrett's award-winning debut novel is now an unmissable stage play. Under the direction of the acclaimed Ben Winspear, three powerhouse young actors deliver memorable and moving performances.

Audiences from our first previews haven't stopped talking about this immersive and engaging journey that explores youth, vulnerability, and familial bonds in a world that tells you to keep your head down and your dreams small.

Past the Shallows is playing at the The Peacock Theatre in Tasmania from 14 to 24 September before landing in Sydney to play at The Rebel Theatre from 12 October to 9 November. Catch this show before it slips away.
"What a stripped back, dynamic, deeply moving piece of theatre this is. The sound scape and backdrops, the way the three actors wore and then shucked off the various characters, the hidden and implied danger and darkness amid beautifully described surroundings. These three young actors held us all the way. I thoroughly recommend you book and experience this complex, thoughtful and riveting play"

ABOUT THE SHOW

Harry and Miles live with their father, an abalone diver, on the wild and beautiful south coast of Tasmania. With their father largely absent, they look after each other as best they can. Over a school holiday, while Miles works on the boat, Harry begins an unlikely friendship that will upset the delicate balance holding this unpredictable world together.

Written by Julian Larnach, based on the award-winning novel by Favel Parrett, and directed by acclaimed director Ben Winspear, Past the Shallows is an ode to brotherhood and a heart-wrenching, lyrical exploration of mortality, family secrets and the capacity for both brutality and tenderness within contemporary masculinity.
