Forward, Toledo!

Happy Wednesday, Toledo.

It was an exciting week in Toledo full of welcoming events and ribbon cuttings! All great signs for our local economy and forward momentum. Speaking of moving forward...did you hear about Forward Toledo? You have the opportunity to tell us what you would like to see in Toledo for the next ten years. Move. Build. Place. Play. We want your opinion on it all. Head to toledo.oh.gov/forward to take a survey today.

It was also an exciting week to celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony for the Toledo Trade Center on the former North Towne Square location with Director of Economic Development Brandon Sehlhorst, and Toledo City Council member Theresa Morris from Toledo City Council District 6.

Successful cities find creative ways to re-imagine themselves and re-deploy their most important assets. Just as the City of Toledo has done recently with the old Southwyck Mall and Textileather sites, this project will turn a long-vacant property into a hub of economic activity and innovation.

Replacing blight with jobs is a true win-win for Toledo. The revitalization of this property will sustain this neighborhood and continue the City of Toledo’s economic momentum. Read more here.

Finally, don't miss the wonderful pictures from the dedication of The Honorable Myron Duhart Park at the Frederick Douglass Center and the opening of the new connector bridge at Swan Creek Metropark.

Have a great week, Toledo.

Join Us for an All-Things-Toledo Meeting!

We have embarked on a six-week plan to meet with residents throughout the community. You can stop by any one of the remaining meetings and hear about all of the projects happening at the Department of Public Utilities, Housing, and Community Development, Forward Toledo, and Engage Toledo.

Become a Hunger Action Superhero!

Kid Mayor Evelyn Bush and members of Kid Council became "Hunger Action Superheroes" with Mayor Kapszukiewicz by packing 200 healthy meals at Connecting Kids to Meals to recognize September as Hunger in Action Month and encourage residents to take action in fighting hunger.

40% of Toledo children live in poverty, and over 60,000 students qualify for free or reduced meals this school year. Connecting Kids to Meals served over 776,000 meals to kids last year alone and is the largest provider of meals to children outside of school in Northwest Ohio.

Let's work together to continue to fight food insecurity in our community this month and every month. You can support their efforts here.
