SEPTEMBER 2022
Introduction from the Chair and Tributes to Queen Elizabeth II.
Since the sad news of the Queen's passing there have rightly been countless tributes from all sections of society and the media, including a tribute on behalf of The Third Age Trust, u3as, our members and friends
It would be difficult for me to match, in words, the respect and emotion that we have seen in recent days.
We will however, observe a period of silence at the upcoming AGM, which takes place the day after the funeral.   R.I.P. your Majesty.

Best Regards    Ian.

Life Stories or Events from our Members
Last month I hadn’t realised the source of the story about the Old Lady on the roof (and the amusing phone call to her son at work) was actually from our very own Creative writing group and more specifically Chris Beesley. Belated credit to Christine.
This month’s entry relates to the 20 Year Badge awards and the members who qualified this year. Membership Secretary Tony Summerlin has the task of identifying those concerned and inviting them to the AGM to receive their award in person. One recipient replied….
Hi Tony,
I will be pleased to attend the Annual General Meeting  on 20th September to receive a commemorative badge for 20 years membership.
Our branch of the U3A has gone from strength to strength and I am so pleased that my brave efforts in taking on the role as Chairman saved the day, all those years ago! (The retiring chairman, June Griffin, had appealed for someone to take over the chair but to no avail, and it was thought that the branch would have to disband).  Although I was new to the area, and U3A, I volunteered.
I have enjoyed my 20 years membership and look forward to a few more years.

 Best wishes,    Mary Joyce.

Many new members may not know Mary, but her contributions to St Neots u3a should not go unnoticed.

Peter Hagger writes ….Friends of St Neots Museum have booked Cineworld St Neots on Friday 23rd September (Doors open 12.45 films starts at 1.15 pm). They will be showing the film entitled 'First of the Few' but usually known as Spitfire as it tells the story of the development of this fine aircraft. The films local connection is that St Neots Spitfire pilot Victor Elkins acted as technical advisor to the film and flew in some of the scenes. I have had the pleasure of seeing the film and I gave it 5 stars.
Tickets are now available from the Museum or you can contact me. peter@hagger.org   07802 580314       Each ticket is £10 as a donation to the Museum.
Community News.
SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY.  from Chris Jarvis
Recently one of the St Neots u3a members (me) suffered a cardiac arrest at One Leisure swimming pool. The team at One Leisure, with the help of pool users, carried out vital C.P.R.  The availability of a localised defibrillator thankfully saved his life. Since this event a fund-raising page has been set up by a local councillor and NHS Paramedic Mr Ian Taylor to fund two additional wall mounted defibrillators in the Eynesbury area and should anyone within the U3A family like to contribute please go to the link below.
The cost of each unit installed and working is in the region of £1500 so the target is £3000 for these two units. More details can be found on the fund raising page.  However, should we exceed our target we will just keep going and carry on raising funds for more units to be installed.
The current survival rate for cardiac arrest is only one in ten so the more units that are installed within the community and countrywide can only be a positive thing with the result that more lives can and will be saved.  https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/eynesburydefibs?utm_term=MMDYXArEv
