In October 2021, thousand of gallons of crude oil spilled from a pipeline off the coast of Bolsa Chica State Beach.
One of many agencies at the forefront of the response to the disaster was the Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center (WWCC), who helped to coordinate the care and transportation of oiled birds found throughout coastal Orange County. In conjunction with state agencies and other non-governmental organizations, the Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center helped to ensure these birds received the best care available to them.

If you've wondered what goes into this kind of response, and how organizations like WWCC operate, our next ExperTalk is your chance to learn!
Talk synopsis: Join Debbie McGuire, executive director of the Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center as she discusses the history of the Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center, what they do, and how they became a center for rehabilitation of oiled wildlife. In addition, Debbie will discuss what goes into caring for oiled wildlife, and the power that the community has in aiding and protecting wildlife.
